Beamdog got their greedy hands on the game, and like with every other game they have leeched onto, the classic version for this one will be removed from the stores. The soundtrack will no doubt be sold separately now too.

They got busted having lied to their customers for over a year not long ago, and had to apologize.

Those of you who don't have the classics yets. Do yourselves a favor and buy it before it vanishes from the store. You will have to pay double (or more) for the new version, and around 10 bucks for the soundtrack. The soundtrack is included for free in the classic version.

What exactly are the improvements here? This looks like the sort of graphics mod you can get for free.

There are so many reasons to pass on this:

- This looks a free graphics mod being sold for $20
- Beamdog doesn't have the best track record when it comes to their enhanced editions
- Even if they're adding new quests, what's the point? This game has THOUSANDS of mods and modules. There's more NWN content out there than I could ever hope to play in my life.
That is what they did to the other games they "enhanced" too. They basically just charged for mods other people had made.

As for the modules and mods for NWN, I am guessing they won't work with the new version. The same thing happened with the BG mods and all that. Not compatible with the EE versions.

Since the classic version will be removed from the stores now, I guess some poor souls have to rework all the mods and modules for NWN in order to get them to work with the (now mandatory) EE version.
If the classic NWN modules don't work, then there is literally no reason to buy this. NWN's vanilla campaign was pretty bland. It was the modules that made it great.

It wasn't until Hordes of the Underdark that NWN finally had a good official campaign.

I am guessing another 10 bucks for the soundtrack too. Which is included for free with the classic. Same crap they pulled with the BG + IWD + PS:T remakes they did.

It wouldn't surprise me if they charge extra for the toolset too, come to think of it.

Here, they say:

"It's crucial, therefore, this Enhanced Edition be compatible with all the mods made for Neverwinter Nights before. Thankfully it will be, and the community has been involved, suggesting their own updates and improvements."

and

"In a nice touch, this new version will be compatible with any old saves you’ve got lying around."

...so saves and mods are all compatible.

I will take that with a pinch of salt, to be honest. We are talking about a company that did this:

https://www.gog.com/forum/baldurs_gate_series/regarding_the_removal_of_the_original_ie_games_from_sale_on_gog/page1

And that also labeled everyone who didn't like the rotten SoD writing transphobic and begged for positive reviews.

If it turns out those quotes will end up being true, good on them. But they aren't coming from a developer with any hint of credibility at this point.
All well and good, but I would think it silly to be so negative about it until we know more. The livestream today may answer a lot of your questions.

I prefer to see the glass as half full. If it does turn out to be a mess, then fine, the backlash will emerge. If, however, it turns out to be good then it will rekindle the NWN community and make many players very happy.

Just read the link I posted, and you will get why this company has a very deserved and very low reputation. The things they have done are on EA level of slime.

They screwed up 3 classic rpg franchises so far. They removed the original creators from the credits on the GoG store to make it look like they themselves were the creators. They removed the classic versions for the store. And they lied about all of it and got caught.

Yeah...the glass is half-empty, alright.

As I said in the other thread, time will tell. It would be a great pity if they messed this one up, since it's one of my favourite games of all time. I will await judgement until more is known though, as there is no point getting worked up over it when we still know so little about it.

No we know all about it. They did it to Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate 1-2, and Planescape. That is 4/4 so far. It won't change with NWN.

No, you are assuming NWN will be the same based on conjecture. Just because a tossed coin lands heads 4 times in a row, it does not mean it is certain to do the same again. You may be right, but you may be wrong.

No it is their business model. They even lied to hide it. Got caught. Had to apologize.

Then they did the same thing to Planescape Torment. And that was just a few months ago. They will do the same to NWN as well. The company is a leech. They stick to a beloved franchise and make sure they get all the income from it.

Conjecture again. It may be true and the evidence thus far may well support you but it is still only a possible outcome.

I want this to be good as much as anyone else and when they announce more you can say "I told you so", but until then you cannot guarantee what you say will come to pass.

Words are cheap. We'll see whether they actually come through on those statements.
