A new version (Insecticiide 1.40n) can to be found in the first post in this thread.

Some top priority fixes were made, the highlight of this release is certainly the Lucky-to-defend bug, making Halfling units into the toughest MoM army. Forget Bilbo, it was actually a stupid game bug. All those years, every third sword missed them automatically, on top of their correct Lucky bonus. So, now they should be really fragile... or little less invincible. Note that the same bug applies to Prayer. Full credit to Zitro for finding this zombie bug!

The runner-up is certainly the problem with Arcane-spells-cluttering-the-research bug.

Expect better AI as a reward, more coloured spells earlier against you! Again, kudos to Zitro.

Lasts but not least, we uncovered a 1.31 unknown code. It seems that right-clicking on cities in the Cities screen makes your empire management super-easy. I recommend trying it, you won't regret. And you may now try to Cycle ("X") through your cities when viewing one of them, it feels nice and may be potentially even useful.

Version 1.40n (latest)

------------------------

- [bug] Lucky and Prayer bonus was incorrectly making all incoming attacks less efficient (-1 to hit), on top of its correct effect

- [bug] arcane spells clutter the research options for player and AIs, due to incorrect choice mechanics.

- [bug] Runemaster 200% to_dispel bonus now works / does not work, only whent it should / should not work .

- [bug] instable data preventing early mercennary offers to the human player

- [bug] Myrror cities had normal roads passing through them

- [insecticide bug] "Revolting raiders" option is now connected with the right button on the Setting screen

- [insecticide bug] serious data instability issue on Cities screen

- [interface] you may cycle through all your cities with "X" key, when viewing the inner City screen

- [interface] Cities screen can be accessed with "T" key

- [interface] Cities screen can be paged through with up and down arrows

- [interface 1.31] right-clicking on cities opens the Change screen in the appropriate location, giving you an easy management tool

Final note:

I resumed work on a big conversion of Master of Magic. It's called Flexibility and Speed, or shortly ZiKy.

Details and further info can be found here, if anyones interested:

Question: Does this patch make the game significantly harder? In other words, would it be a bad idea for a newb like me to run it?

Gazoinks: Question: Does this patch make the game significantly harder? In other words, would it be a bad idea for a newb like me to run it?
By removing some of the cheezy exploits that humans had access to, it does make some battles harder - but as a new player you probably wouldn't know the exploits yet, so that won't make a difference!
It does generally up the difficulty a bit (though look through Settings to turn off some options which make it harder, such as additional rampaging monsters). However, this difficulty increase is not that bad, and you can always start on "Easy". That's still a good introductory level.
Welcome to a great game!

Great, thanks. :)
Due to recent changes to Realms Beyond forum structure all old links to the forums no longer work. Due to same changes the download link for MoM Unofficial patch no longer work. Hopefully kyrub can reupload the patch soon.

In the meantime you can still download it from Petrell's Domain's Downloads section (mom folder).

Here's also new working link to MoM Unofficial Patch Forum at Realms Beyond.

I've been enjoying the new patch. However, a bug in the original game seems to have been replaced with an even worse bug. In the original, if you attacked a wizard in her tower and she had about 16,200 mana or more, she couldn't cast spells. Now (so far as I can tell) she can cast spells just fine, except for the Spell of Return. This means you won't be able to get most of the good spells from your really strong opponents, because you won't be able to repeatedly banish them.

dymerski1: Bug report: with Insecticide patch, the only artifacts I can find in dungeons etc are garbage artifacts. In about 20 games, I haven't seen anything that wasn't +1 / +1 +1 or something similar.
I'm seeing the same issue - the best items I'm seeing after patching are on par with the worst items that I saw before patching, no matter how difficult the encounter (Sky Drakes shouldn't cough up +3 to hit swords!).

Also, the "w" button no longer shortcuts for "wait" - I have to manually hit the wait button now.

Other than those two issues, I'm loving the patch! Heck, it was worth patching just to be able to cycle through cities.

My 1 "wish list" item, if there's an updated patch (and if this is possible without completely rewriting the code): a build queue!

OK, I will look into it.

Hmmmm... not sure what I did with it. Try SPACE? Yes, I think I found irritating I had to search "w" every time I needed to wait (which is 20 times every turn).

The problem with the queue is the missing graphics/interface. And it's a big one.
It's true that space has replaced 'w' (outside of combat), but it would be wonderful if they both worked - I was quite used to using 'w', and still hit it pretty often. Since spacebar now has so many functions, it makes me nervous to use it too often - if I hit it twice by accident, the one hit sitting in the keyboard queue might do anything! :)

The patch is, overall, fantastic. It's really upped my pleasure from the game, so thank you so much! And it's true that simply cycling through cities is a huge bonus.

While we're mentioning bugs, though... not introduced by the patch, but still existing from the original game: if one is moving on the world map using the keyboard, there is always one column where moving left instead moves up and left... I assume this is when one is wrapping around from column 0 to column (whatever the maximum column size is). For some reason moving across that line also moves the Y coordinate up one... hitting "4" is equivalent to hitting "7", hitting "1" converts to a "4", and hitting "7" actually causes two moves, up-left and straight up. It's odd, and I don't know if anybody else uses the keyboard for scouting as I do. I'm not certain if this is related to the inability to unload ships sometimes.
I install the game and try to run it: the screen goes black, and I return to desktop and a small window with the text "SDL_app" over it lasts for several seconds before disappearing. If I try and patch the game to 1.40n, it says I need to find a version for 64-bit operating systems. Has anyone else had this issue? I can run this on several old computers just fine, and until recently the game was working on my computer with 64-bit vista on it. Now, it isn't, and I'm not sure why.

First comes to mind is installer and/or data corruption. You should try redownloading and reinstalling the game. Second, did you by change, install game to program files folder? If so uninstall and reinstall anywhere outside program files (c:\games or what ever). Oh and you are launching the game from shortcut and you aren't trying to run the exe directly as MoM is (16-bit) dos game and it can't be run on 64-bit OS without DOSBox.
I found out what was causing the problem, guys. Turns out, I use a program called Dxtory to lock my framerate when I play Skyrim. You have to activate it before you run the game. The problem was, I had it up when I was trying to run MoM and it was causing some sort of conflict between the two. When I turned Dxtory off, MoM and all other DOSBox games worked fine. : P
This is awesome! Thanks for taking the time to make it!
In the insecticide patch, is Extreme the hardest difficulty? or Impossible?

SamKuker101: In the insecticide patch, is Extreme the hardest difficulty? or Impossible?
I just checked this, as part of my research on what the patch does. Extreme is basically Impossible Lite: everything is the same, except that some of the AI bonuses are slightly lower (for example, production bonuses are 225% instead of 250%).
