LaAvenue1984: Having problems starting the game. The whole intro video will play and bring me to the IWD menu screen t select multiplayer and single player and all that. When I go to create a game, the screen minimizes and freezes up. I have deleted every bit of content of this game off my computer and have re-downloaded it twice. I'm using Windows 7. Any advice?
There are a number of suggestions in this thread
I have tried all the suggestions in this thread and others I am am running windows 7

Runtime Error!

Program: ... ram Files (x86)\Icewind Dale Complete\IDMain.exe

I have the exact same problem here. I will even complete with the crash inducing events : importing a character and saving make the game crash. I can create a party and launch the game if I don't try to modify any biography.

I'm running Windows 7 on 64 bits.

Jodaan: Snip..
Have you tried excluding IWD from your anti virus scan, as suggested for Avast in this thread ?

Just to double check, you tried deleting the .RES files? This worked for me. I'm also running a Win7 64 bit machine. However, I installed the game in a different folder than the default. I'd suggest trying that if nothing else works. Perhaps something like C:\Games. Run the installer as Admin, and the game as well.

Well, the .res files are the exported characters. I'm not sure if this can be the source of all the problems (i.e. crash when saving) but I'll give it a try. If it don't change anything I'll try to install the game in Admin.

Edit : In the exported characters file there is two format : .CHR and .RES. I remember the fact that the exported char were only in only file type. But how, by the nine hells, would that impact the game that way ?

Edit 2 : Deleting the .res files actually worked. Don't ask me why... It seems that I can now edit the biography of my chars (even if it freezes a little before opening, I just won't change the bio) and save. You may have saved me Coelocanth, thanks a lot.

But I can't seem to be able to scroll the map with the mouse, I need to open the zone map and double click where I want to see. Anyone experiencing the same issue ?

I can't recall the details of why this works, but if memory serves it has to do with the format of the .res files or some such. Something that was not included in Win7, so it can't read those files.

Now that's something I've not seen reported before. If I come across anything I'll give you a heads up.
I deleted the .res files and still go the same error when i click done on biography. I have tried every suggestion on this sight and still no luck

Don't click 'Done' on Biography. If memory serves, when making a character, the last two tabs (Biography and Name) are highlighted after choosing your character's appearance, so just don't touch Biography at all and click on Name.
I just figured that out I can now create characters and hopefully play the game thanks for the help
I can't get it to run on my Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit. i am terrible with computers. I should say i down loaded the icewind dale complete. Please help me this has been annoying me for days

I had the runtime problem, googled it, was led to this post, deleted the .RES files and everything works now.
