Now, come on, Amon. I upvoted your initial post because I felt it is ok not to play a game with a male/female main char for role playing reasons. & you don't deserve a "low rated" rating because of that.

But the same is true for the game. Just because it has a girl main char, doesn't mean it is 1 star. You say it yourself: It is great that there are games for girls.

I want to play as a pitbull or a hamster .. possible ??

So you have denied yourself the entire Tomb Raider games? I do like the Ubisoft games that provide choices of player avatar gender. I tend to mix them up just to see different play (and how the NPCs respond to a girl :) Funnyy, the play-throughs (e.g., recent Assassins Creed) always feature the male characters though.. :)

Someone in the reviews just made a very good point. In games with over-the-shoulder perspective like tomb raider, men like to play girls... because they literally are staring at their butt all the time ;)

This is actually a valid point. In Zero Horizon Dawn I'm looking *at* the main character. And honestly, I like watching a girl more than a man. For... manly reasons ;)

The problem is the incel bruhs in this thread claiming they like looking at the backs of girls rather than the backs of guys because that makes them less "sexually confused."

It's a role palying game where you're playing AS a woman. You're pretending that's YOU, with your breasts heaving in the wind and your camel toe sweat showing through your tights. You're not looking at the character, you're playing as them as well.

So you guys must really, really like dressing up as girls.

Personally, I don't really care if I have to play a female, male, alien, whatever. Of course, everybody has preferences to the type of character they want to play. I know that there are characters I wouldn't want to play as, but this is based more on personality traits and such. To be honest, overly macho dudes can put me off way more than your average female character would. That's not to say that females can't be annoying or unpleasant for me to play as, but that's certainly nothing to do with their gender...

Speaking of macho... by the same logic that "games with girl protags are for girls only" a large number of games would be made exclusively for guys who are at least 2meters tall, have arms like medium-sized tree trunks, shoulders 1.5meters wide, down buckets of blood while chomping down on rusty nails for their breakfast, can carry at least 3 or better yet a good dozen of ridiculously oversized weapons (ammo included) and of course recover from wounds that would have insta-killed most of us puny mortals.

The majority of games that were released throughout the past decades had male protagonists (only looking at those that had a fixed protag). So why do some guys get all weird when some game is released that sports a non-male protagonist? Where did you read that every single game in existence has to be made for you specifically? Maybe you should give these games a chance. You might realize that games can be fun even if you have to play as something you are not in real life. Playing a buffed-out space marine probably isn't a problem for you, even though I'd assume that's not what you are irl. So maybe a fox (as somebody else pointed out before) would work for you too or -O M G- even a girl. Try it - I know you can do it! :D

Apart from that I don't think the OP was entirely wrong. Usually you *are* playing an alter ego in RPGs etc.

But it is also pretty obvious that games like Tomb Raider are successful exactly because they appeal to *men*, not to women.

And my little jokes are just the usual way I tend to argue. You shouldn't take internet discussions too serious.

Only real men play as a woman.
