Whenever I launch my version of GOG Galaxy installed (tried normal and as administrator) v2.0.41.150 I get an update window for version 2.0.41 that when it tries to install just says:

"There was a problem with updating the application. You can always download the latest version from:"

I have tried uninstalling my current version and installing the version from the download link but it still does this problem.

I have never had a Galaxy update work, ever.
Every one has failed and just tells me to go download it.

Does it actually work for others?

Because of this I stopped using it as a launcher and just occasionally use it to see if I have a certain game on another launcher before buying..

it just tried again after a full clean install and the only errors I can find from the logs for this time are as follows:

Yes, it fails. It hangs on that every time I launch after reboot, then the second launch lets me enter GOG Galaxy and play my games from there.
If I download a new version from the link it says something like "you already have the newest version installed" or some such (because it's correct) and does not do anything. I'm not uninstalling because things sort of work and I have no clue what would happen then.

So, why does it hang on updating when there isn't a newer version available?

Same here. Left unatended the client will end up crashing and always asks me to update. The update will fail and tell me to download from link, which I do, then it tells me I've already installed the latest version.

It's annoying.

this. i've had this prob for a while, myself. most of this year actually. has anyone solved it yet, or learnt more about it? coz i'd like my Galaxy to go back to working properly. as per others in this small thread, i've tried using the suggested link and re/installing, but it just says "you have the latest version". i am leery of totally un-and-reinstalling Galaxy entire, since i dont know if that'd interact with all my installed games somehow and make them go wonky too?
Same here, been happening for a long time (a year at least). Wonder why there's been no reaction from support on this, at least one I can find.
For me also, the Update fails every time since i use galaxy, which is a long time. And when i reinstall it from the homepage over the old install some of my games are missing and i have to manually add them back. I really want to use the galaxy client, but this is just such a bs update system and i'm so dissapointed that after over a year this still doesn't work.
Same here. New update today and fail update. Always the same from the beginning.
Same issue for me. It claims there's files missing and fails around the 40% mark, but a restart launches it just fine. Could you pretty please disable the check on the downloaded installer? I'd like to force the installer to work even if I'm "already running the latest version". There's a reason I manually downloaded it after all.
In case you are still experiencing difficulties with updating GOG GALAXY please get in touch directly with our GOG GALAXY Team regarding the problem:
Top left corner cogwheel in GOG GALAXY -> Report issue

If for some reason you can't get to GOG GALAXY, please use the following form.

Please attach a zipped logs folder to your report.

To get to your logs folder use the Run command (WinKey+R key combination) and enter:
%programdata%\GOG.com\GALAXY\Logs

As a workaround, you could try to force launch the update once again by using the web installer.

Same here. The auto update always fails. Has been the case for months/years. Would be nice to get word from the developers on what is causing this issue for so many.
Like everyone else, same. Forever it seems

Thank you for your assistance. Many of us have already tried using the manual installer. It doesn't work. That installer does a check and if it "confirms" the same version is installed, it refuses to proceed.

I'll attach my log for you and others to examine later on.
