cousta: Here's what works for me on macOS:
1. make sure that any other system account is logged out
2. open a terminal and run /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/redists/GalaxyCommunication
3. launch GOG Galaxy

GalaxyCommunication will immediately exit if any other account is still logged in. I assume it's a poorly thought-through attempt to prevent GOG account sharing.

SoSVaS: Just came here to say that this is what solved it for me, might be helpful for someone else

Apple M2 Pro, running on Sonoma 14.5 (23F79)
!!! THIS SEEMS TO SOLVE IT !!!!

ALSO ALLOW LOGIN ETC FROM STARTUP SETTINGS
No, sorry, that’s not working for me..

neant: In my case, I had to re-enable both "GOG" entries under "Login Items" in System Settings.

I have two entries there, "GOG Galaxy.app" and "GOG Sp. z o.o.". They are enabled even if "Launch GOG Galaxy at system startup" is disabled in GOG Galaxy Settings. I don't know why or what they do, so I had them disabled. On update GOG Galaxy would complain about service failure and shut itself down. After I enabled them it worked again.
APPROVED. Woow, thanks a lot mate. Such a simple solution, yet very effective. The thing with writing the code in the terminal worked for me as well, but then gog client didn`t want to download or play any game. After your advice, solved.
@Gog ?
Would you mind having a look at this ?
None of the previous tricks has worked on my M3 Pro Sequoia 15.3.1.
Had the same issue, even though GOG Galaxy used to work before. Had it installed through Homebrew. Was able to solve it by:

1. Uninstalling GOG Galaxy (brew remove gog-galaxy)
2. Rebooting my system
3. Installing GOG Galaxy (brew install gog-galaxy)
4. Rebooting my system
5. Acknowledging the system password dialog that popped up for installing some GOG related background process
6. Waiting for a moment in case that was still doing anything in the background
7. Rebooting my system

...and everything worked again.

Maybe not all of those reboots would have been necessary, but whatever

PS: I'm running a MacBook 14" with M1 Pro and current OS (15.3.1)

One is hiding under Library/LaunchDaemons/
The other one is directly erasable from within system settings. Select it and press “minus” button.

YEP! IT DOES IT!!! I could not get the Galaxy running for over 3 years due to this snafu.

thank you @tiemohomo - this was it for me!

I hope the offline installer eliminates this issue as I have a separate admin and separate non-gaming account (3 accounts) in use for security reasons (and to keep contexts separate!)

UPDATE: I "fast user switched" into my non-gaming account while it was installing - no issues completing the install while the user was in the background. Launched the game while 2 macOS users were logged in. Quit the game and launched the game directly (not through GOG Galaxy) while 2 macOS accounts were logged in and the game also launched no problem. I haven't rebooted so the jury is still out but it does seem like GOG Galaxy is only needed to install the game (different from how Steam games won't launch unless Steam is running)
