Bonjour et bienvenue sur GOG.com!

We're happy to announce that the site is now available in the native tongue of Molière, ‎Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Honoré de Balzac, Jules Verne, and René Goscinny! Here, at GOG.com we're always trying to make DRM-free entertainment more accesible to gamers around the world. For your convenience we'll be rolling out support for different language versions of our service, and we're starting with French - right now! On top of main page translation, french-speaking support representative is waiting to help you with your game-related problems and answer your questions.

You ask in your language, you get answered in your language eventually by someone who translated a communication from another language.
I don't think it's better. My english is good enough to understand almost everything. The benefit is that with a larger community I get better answers in a shorter time. This advantage is to me more valuable than a slightly better understanding.

I will stay on the english community site but I would feel bad if some germans I know here move to the german discussion site (if it comes). Then I may feel the pressure to post of both sites and I would not like it.

That's awesome! GOG, could you please post the complete list of the new French versions? I may have a lot of games to re-download but I don't see the update icon in my library.

The-Business: When it comes to end users / "normal" people, bad English skills are pretty common - especially in countries with dubbed TV shows - I guess. [...] Furthermore, people from France often hang out in groups and which often prevents that they train their English (e.g. Erasmus student exchange, conferences).
These two points also sound a lot like germans from my experience (I'm german-born).
I do guess the "dubbed TV shows" part explains a lot of the general unwillingness of some to learn any other language. For both Germany and France being a bigger country with a lot of (more or less) speakers abroad also doesn't help I tihnk.

Come on, YOU are not the center of the world, nor are english speakers.

It does not change ANYTHING for english speakers, gog service is just enhanced for FRENCH speakers. WHat the heck is wrong with that? What the heck is wrong with you guys...

Sometimes I just don't get this community...

Page de garde du site, en bas, tu peux choisir ta langue. A côté du choix de la monnaie. Il y a également un forum de discussion français.

Cool, now we can bash and argue with people in French :)

Anyway, I'll still post in the English forums because I like speaking with people from around the world.

And for people not understanding why gog does this : a lot of French people can't speak a second language (or rather : they don't want to) so they'll gladly welcome this move.

Hey, I never said that GOG should not do it or that other users shouldn't use it. I only talked about me and how I may be affected by this change. I know that I'm not the center of the world but I also never said so. I feel misunderstood now.

Pointing out the risks and disadvantages is not inherently bad but rather a good thing.
In short: It may be nice but it comes at a price and the price is fragmentation, at least to some extent. We'll see how much of a problem this will be. I hope this is agreeable.

People who speak two or more languages often post on all the sections they understand...
