A true role-playing platformer experience that will unleash your inner munchkin.

Unepic, an awesome RPG/platformer full of loot, monsters, dungeons, and lots of nerd culture-based humor showing just how fun tabletop role-playing might get, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the first week.

Daniel was one of those guys, who will argue with everyone for a chance to re-roll their character's stats. He would secretly add "+1"s to his equipment sheet when nobody was looking. Sometimes, he would "accidentally" knock down a cup of Slurpee on the table just to rearrange the characters setting on the map. And, boy, was he good at it! Maybe he had superior stealth stats and no one ever noticed his meddling, or maybe everyone thought that arguing with "that guy" was pointless. The important thing was: Daniel rocked tabletop role-playing. At least in his own opinion. But then, one dark night, as he left the table only for a moment, he was transported into a dark and ominous castle taken straight from a Game Master's most sadistic dream. Daniel would have to muster all of his skills and tricks to handle this ordeal. But, after all, he WAS the ultimate munchkin!

Unepic is a exploration and loot-based fantasy platformer that in its core is the ultimate tribute to pen-and-paper role-playing and nerdom. The number of times the game winks at fantasy gaming fans, TV show followers, bookworms, and gamers is simply uncountable. You will explore a huge set of dangerous stages with varied environments, vast selection of monsters, and even more incredible equipment to find and utilize against your foes. The GOG.com version even comes with some exclusive items, unavailable anywhere else!

If the way of the munchkin is your preferred approach to tabletop RPGs, if you appreciate nerd-culture references, if you love loot above everything else, it's time for you to start exploring the realm of Unepic, for only $4.99 on GOG.com! The launch offer lasts until Tuesday, May 28, at 9:59AM GMT.
Nice release, Unepic is a very good game and deserves all the exposure it can get.

However, gOg is again a bit late to the party, and I will not buy it here again as I already got it from two other previous DD sites.
It's OK; the "humor" is almost all "Look! A pop culture reference!" which gets pretty old fast ("if you appreciate nerd-culture references ..." I really, really don't.), but I'll always have a place in my heart for Metroidvania.

Fred_DM: "good" or even "excellent" isn't really the same as "mind-blowing".

i'm just saying, don't get your hopes up too much. GOG always announce things in a big way. to an extent, that's what you do pay marketing folks for. usually, the actual release isn't half as impressive as the initial announcement makes you think.
And when the initial announcement is a passing comment by G-doc blown out of proportion by the community, to the point where G-doc himself had to tell people not to get their hopes up....

But still, Unepic here is not only a great game, but also one that was supposedly rejected before. It's sudden appearance, together with it's raw quality, does qualify the release as mindblowing. For me, that is.
Hmmmm... This release is fine but it's still only one game when usually GOG does two on Tues/Thurs. They should perhaps consider not dragging out the releases of whatever old games they have the rights to, seriously GOG if you have em sell em, instead of just selling 1 game

Licurg: I assure you it's not. I've had it for some time from GG, and it's great. And I'm not even a fan of this genre. I would warmly recommend it.

SpikedCereal: Hmm, so it's actually a decent game then huh? The impression I got was the opposite but alright, I'll keep that in mind and give this game the benefit of a doubt

Also: My previous post became low rated? Seriously? Different Opinions are not welcome here then?

Everyone who downrepped me can kiss my dick
But what if said down-repper enjoys the penis? Hmm?

DeadlyRamon: Cool! My Spanish is very primitive, and I can only understand a couple of Catalan words (particularly those loanwords in English like cul-de-sac, paella, surge, and barracks), but to me spoken Catalan sounds like a mixture of Castilian Spanish and French!
Because that's what it basically is. Most languages are the product of combination among older roots and neighbouring languages, it's no surprise that there is a mix there. And it's quite a nice situation too, Catalans are in a priviledged position to learn both Spanish and French.

I myself have never "got" the humour of many indie RPG's, and never really liked the art-style either.

I realize it's a personal taste thing though. I stopped playing Frayed Knights simply because the webcomic art-style was intolerable to me

like all of them in just one day? so that we have for example two months without a new release afterwards? I like this regular system better :o)

Can this be turned off in the Options menu somehow?

Hmmmm, it just seems... inconsistent, to be releasing new indie games, when even series' of old games on GOG aren't even finished. For example, Caesar 3 is on GOG, but where is 1 & 2? Every Settlers game is here on GOG except for the first one...

There's also huge holes in GOG's backlog, and I am not talking about LucasArts or anything, I'm talking games that EA or Ubisoft should own.

I know this doesn't bug everyone like it bugs me though, it just makes me crazy, do things in order please!

Cifer29: Damn it. Okay I just tried it cause I was curious and it really is like that. Depending on what you select at the language screen it is eigther censored or not censored. Select German and at least all the fucks are censored, select english and everything in perfectly fine. I dunno about the other languages but since there seem to be plenty you might wanna check if the game thinks that your language deserves a censored or uncensored version of the game. And thats a crying shame cause from what I seen sofar at least the german translation is alright and I surely have seen a lot other games that had a higher budget but had a much more worse translation than this one :(.

Leroux: What do you mean, 'all the fucks are censored'? Is the game translated into German or not? If so, is there no cursing at all in the translation, or is it just translated in a different way than what you yourself would have preferred?
I mean that for example when you meet that blue demon thing that does posses you at the end of the dialogue that one fuck you is translated like this: f**k dich . So instead of acutally having the full word it is censored with the stars. And yes of course there is a german translation and as I already said and it is a pretty well done translation aswell which is why I am diapppionted (decent german translation and syncros are pretty rare). Now for me I have no problem playing it in english cause I usually it is the better version anyway but when I see a good translation for my language I would prefer to play it in my language. As far as for the rest I seen sofar I really like the game a lot so I of course still would recommend picking it up if you are interested in that kinda genre mix.

things that make someone's OCD senses go crazy are always good for that person to overcome given OCD :D (or at least they speed up the person's mental hospitalisation :o)

I really don't know, but I don't believe GOG has these piles of games ready to be released and just saying "let's wait a little longer, let's see how much more they can take"... I'd like to believe there are some technical problems that need fixing, some legal issues that don't allow the release etc.

GOG for sure has a plan set for releases (like not-so-good releases should be followed by very good releases) but they're really not teasing you, I promise :o)

when you start the game and choose your language there's this "unEnglish" option... I'm not sure what it does though :D (try googling it)

I'm not sure if these questions have been answered before (this thread is moving really fast), so sorry if it's a repeat question. There were two things that bothered me with Unepic, have those been fixed? I'm talking about:

1. The game used to phone home and require online authentication. Afterwards there was a bundle version that was playable without online authentication, but still required it to get all the features. Has this been removed in the GOG version, and can this game now be experienced completely without the need of online authentication? Is it really DRM-free now?

2. The game was barely playable on large resolutions. Instead of using the whole screen, it put black bars on all four sides, and the objects on the screen ended up too tiny. Does the game use the entire screen now?

Oh, ok. Yes, that's pretty ridiculous. :D

I'll check at home in a couple of hours... I'm not sure though how will I know that the game "phones home"? I've installed it a while ago and ran it and it didn't even require the "serial number" that appears under the link for download in your "My Games"
