A conflict on a celestial scale!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/nexus_the_jupiter_incident/]Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, a story-driven real-time tactical game that puts a fleet of heavily armed spacecrafts at your command, is available on GOG.com for only $9.99!

You are Marcus Cromwell, a young and ambitious captain of a legendary Stiletto spacecraft. As your career begins, a devastating war over precious resources that could grant stellar dominion ensues on the edge of the solar system. Your tactical skill and battle expertise might prove to be the tipping point of the entire conflict that future generations would call “The Jupiter Incident”.

Nexus is a TFS--which stands for a Tactical Fleet Simulation according to the game’s developers--and that seems to be the most adequate of possible descriptions. In over 30 complex missions you will command a fleet of varied spacecrafts in a fully 3D environment, choosing your own tactics to push your forces towards the victory. And between battles you will manage your flotilla--upgrade, enhance and repair your ships with the resources awarded after a successful battle.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident is a great tactical challenge with astounding visuals that will satisfy strategy gamers and space-opera fans alike, now on GOG.com for only $9.99

Tolya: Unfortunately there won't be a Nexus 2 game :( The developer (Mithis) was closed by Square Enix in 2010 and the project was scrapped. Bits of info float around the internet though and some tech demos are still on afaik.

InkPanther: Guys called Most Wanted Entertainment are trying to make Nexus 2. Last year I think, they started a games-plant project that didn't work, and now there's a rumour that they'll try again with Kickstarter.

Edit: MW Games -> MW Entertainment
This is true, and if I may pimp my blog, you can read more about it here.

Now as y'all who are hatin', y'all should simmer down now. ;) Nexus 2, which did come out around 2004 on disk and was sold here in the States, is an amazing game of starship control. It's not an easy game, but it's a challenging and beautiful one that any fan of space games should play.
I just have a small complaint that trailer is a bit misleading with 'command ships accross tons of starsystems.' It's simply not true, there is no freedom of movement ... Well not across star systems.

Politics can (and do) deliver some of the crappiest voice acting you could dream of !

Disappointed it was not "my game" this week but that is just human nature. This does look like a cool release for those into this type of game and it is an older title so that is cool too.

While I am here though, can we please, please have Ultima IX next week? It would be the virtuous thing to do you know.

Plus, me love GOG long time for Ultima IX.

Indeed, U9 is definitely somewhere in the "murdering children" section of the Avatar's virtues.

You could always try listening to Norwegian politicians trying to speak English. It's probably worse than any voice acting you'll ever hear.

Virtuous guilty pleasure. ;-)
Does this game have a skirmish mode to extend the gameplay?

Then again, it's not like I need gameplay extended, I've got so much stuff to go through, I could do well with a short game.

Capital EXPLOSIONS are interesting, specially since they're happening on capital ships.

I remember reading WTF Dragon's reply somewhere on Ultimacodex.com that he was still preparing goodies for U9 and that it may not be ready for some time in the future. It could be that I remembered the time frame wrongly, but he did say he wasn't ready yet a week or two ago.

No skirmish in single player. But it can be setup in Multiplayer. The trouble with that is you need a separate LAN PC setup to get AI. It doesn't work on a single PC.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

MIKEWRX: Just wanted to add my voice to state my disbelief that so many people seem genuinely disappointed with this release, going to the point of "blaming" GOG for releasing games that are *gasp* not on theirs or any general wishlist, but releasing games appreciated by GOG staff! borderline criminal if you ask me...

Let's be clear - not every game suits every gamer's taste, and it's perfectly understandable that some people might come out and say, "oh, this isn't my type", but can't we just keep it polite, and simply wish good gaming to the hundreds, nay thousands, of GOG gamers who will undoubtely appreciate this tilte?

For me, Nexus is an amazing space tactical combat simulator, rightly compared to Homeworld in these forums for the setting and visuals and to Ground Control for gameplay style and challenging difficulty (see first 5 star review on this site). I already have it on disc, but it won't stop me from wishlisting it!

Great addition GOG and to TheEnigmaticT - you have good gaming taste lol!
"Rightly compared to home world?" You got me. I'm buying this game right now.

gameon: It's indie isn't it? It's not something i've heard of. I'd prefer a genuine high rated game of yesteryear.

TheEnigmaticT: I'm not sure that arguing over whether an 8 year old game should count as a classic or an indie is productive, really. Can't it count as both? Either way, it's something that would remind you a little of Space Rangers and a little of Homeworld and a little of Incubation. It's a crazy mash-up of genres, and one that I'm happy to have in the catalog.
And it's one that I'll be happy to try as soon as I get a little more money in the bank. as for the indies/classics argument, I find the "indies" are closer in feel to the classics than most of the new games from big publishers. I like the occasional war-themed FPS but the big releases are starting to get really redundant. These "indie" games have the imagination and originality of the classic era.

I'll finish with this; OK, I admit most of the games I'd been champing at the bit for are already here (especially Ultima VII and Worlds Of Ultima) but there are still many coming (Final Fantasy VII and VIII come to mind since Square Enix is here) but for now I'm enjoying the ride. Also, I bought one of the "indies", Uplink, and I have become hooked. Try them. You'll find they are often as good as the classics, and definitely closer to them in spirit than "major" releases.

There's a mod just for that
