As heroic as fantasy gets!

Blade of Darkness, a brutal and challenging TPP action hack ‘n’ slasher set in a dark and gritty heroic fantasy realm that feels like a Robert E. Howard novel, is available on GOG.com, for only $5.99

Heroic fantasy--a genre of fiction that has fueled the imaginations of many generations. Dark and brutal worlds full of injustice and ominous magic are always waiting for a champion: a man or woman, scantily clad, wielding a legendary weapon, slashing beasts and villains left and right, and looking as fabulous as a demigod. This is the heart and soul of such stories and it didn't change much since the time of ancient myths. The fact that we enjoy them so much proves that we aren't that different from our great ancestors and tales of godlike heroism still get our blood run pumping. Gather ‘round, friends, and hear the story of four heroes and their epic battle against the dark overlord, Dal Gurak, the necromancer.

Blade of Darkness is a third person perspective action game that focuses on combat. Each of the four heroes has its very own set of moves and statistics, and starts the adventure in a different area. There's over 100 different weapons you can use in the game, each with its own characteristics that reflect on the fighting style. New special attacks can be unlocked as your character gains experience and power. While you slash and bash through the hordes of terrifying monsters, you will feel the urge sometimes to stop and look at the beautiful--if a bit gloomy--surroundings. If you're looking for a game that will take you on a fantastic quest filled with merciless combat, this is the one to pick up!

There are great deeds of bravery and might to be done in Blade of Darkness, for only $5.99 on GOG.com. Get heroic!

tinyE: This looks a lot like Die By the Sword. Anyone here played both and can compare the two?

xxxIndyxxx: As far as i am concerned: similar games BUT

- DbtS is older and so severance has better graphics
-DbtS is difficult because the controls don't work, Severance is difficult because of design
-severance has multiple characters with different play styles
Far out, thank you. The picks posted evidently don't do it any justice.
Looks pretty badass. I'll see what the weekend promo brings. I may go ahead and pick this up.
Why would you make widescreen screenshots of a game which is obviously intended for only 4:3, and stretches anything else?
I've never posted in a new release thread before to pimp a game, but seriously folks, this game is unbelievably awesome. Once you get past the initially learning curve on the controls there's simply no game that does melee combat better (unless it's Dark Souls, which I haven't played yet). As others have said, the graphics were well ahead of their time at launch, and still look great today. What others have failed to mention is that the game also has excellent object physics. If it has a few weaknesses, they are 1) ranged combat e.g. bows is fairly weak compared to melee, and 2) while combat with all bladed weapons is immensely satisfying, I always avoided combat with blunt weapons (maces, clubs, hammers) because they simply lack the same sense of aural and tactile feedback you get with a sword or spear.

In short, awesome, awesome game. I hope everyone here buys it.

Strijkbout: Buy this game people!

This is the best melee combat game I've ever played, it even is highly atmospheric whereas a lot of fantasy games fail miserably in that departement.

And just listen to this.
The soundtrack is simply awesome:

I've complained about it before but it seems GOG's lazy screenshot departement doesn't want to compromize the thumbnail format.
Thank you for the better screen shots. Now I want it, which is shit because I've already got too much shit on here I want! It's maddening! AHHHH!!!
How is the replayability on this title?

Rebel Act studios closed a few months after the release of the game, when they were working on a sequel, becuase they didn't sell many copies.
Many of Rebel Act workers created a new studio called Mercury Steam. and made the following games: Scrapland, Clive Barker's Jericho and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

The game is great. It's like Golden Axe, Die By the Sword, and Street Fighter managed to make a baby together and named it Blade of Darkness.
I totally forgot about this game but i'm so glad it's here. I love this site.

I played the hell out of this game back when it was new and will be doing so again soon.
Atleast it's not a sale item because I'm not doing any purchasing for another week or so and it helps that I'm not under any pressure. and MikeMaximus, Iove your login, your avatar, and your country but with all do respect, I HATE THIS SITE! Before GOG I was able to do things like, buy food and pay bills. NO MORE! I HATE YOU! DAMN YOU TO HELL GOG! :D
I had lost hope to see this one here, :D

Great game, technically way ahead of its time and with very satisfying gameplay. The story is quite confusing, but the medieval fantasy atmosphere is very, very immersive.
Woohoo! I always have a copy of "severance" (as "blade of darkness" was known initially) on my hard drive. Instabuy!

Although I cleared the whole game as babarian I've never managed to get the real ending. As I understand it you had to find all hidden items or something and when you re-visited locations the normal enemies were replaced by deadly mini boses.

Get this game, it's gory and violent and merciless and you can definitely throw limbs at your opponents. What more do you need?

jamyskis: I expect German is missing to avoid the accusation that GOG is deliberately marketing a blacklisted game to a German audience. That's usually what makes the difference in a court of law.
I'd say there are other countries where people talk German.
