GOG.com is extremely happy to tell you that while the <span class="bold">very successful "Battle of the Games"</span> has ended, our plans for an exciting summer have only just begun. Following the 66% off Alan Wake series promo, which will be over in two hours, we have prepared something indie fans will love. [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/release_promo_indie_drop]<span class="bold">Today, we&rsquo;re dropping four releases and dropping their prices a neat 50%.</span>

For the next 7 days, four great indie titles: Gemini Rue, DEFCON, Multiwinia, and Uplink are available 50% off. Gemini Rue is a tense, surprising, and challenging sci-fi point-and-click from the publishers of Resonance and the Blackwell Bundle. is a Global Thermonuclear War Simulation in which you prepare your military forces, and nuclear silos, make or break alliances with other superpowers, and finally, fire zee missiles! [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/multiwinia]Multiwinia is the multiplayer-focused (but not multiplayer-only) sequel to Darwinia, a fantastic RTS with simple game mechanics, but great strategic depth. Uplink is a hacker simulator--not your typical game, but strangely entertaining and believable.

Visit the Summer Indie Drop promo page to get DEFCON, Uplink, Gemini Rue, and Multiwinia for 50% off until Thursday, July 19 at 04:59 AM EDT.

bazilisek: Really? That's odd. I mean, it's an AGS game running at 320x200, that shouldn't be a problem for most calculators these days.
Now I am reminded again that my PHONE is faster than my freaking laptop ... What has happened to this world!

(Actually, it is quite awesome!)

Fred_DM: right, because the point of a sale is to download your games immediately...
Say that for the loosers ( Hammer Legion members and teenagers ) on the Steam forum .

i said it to you...

so what if the servers are overloaded for a while? the point of the sale is to get games incredibly cheap, and the last 2 sales (winter and summer) have been fantastic for me.

usually, the servers are doing well enough for me. if i have to wait a couple of hours for the traffic to die down a bit, what difference does that make? but suit yourself.

the last Steam Summer and Winter Sales have been some of the best times for me as a gamer. incredible deals and surprises every day, activities and achievements, free games and DLC. discovering games you'd never have bought otherwise. etc.
Looks like that was it for today, at least now I can get some work done ...

I am disappoint.

until 19:00 tonight...
These are definitely quality indie releases. Like others, I have them all from prior bundles, but for those who missed the opportunities, GOG is as great a place as any to purchase them.
I've played Uplink before and enjoyed it, I think I'll have to buy it. And DEFCON and Gemini Rue while I'm at it. And Chronicles of Riddick which is still on sale...

Man, GOG sure has a knack for beating the shit out of my bank account.

you bank account must be tiny...

Fred_DM: Steam Summer Sale starting today, so you'll need all the money for that anyway.

ne_zavarj: Steam Summer ( and Christmas ) Sale sucks . Servers will be overloaded , you will have to wait for days if you want to download the game(s) you bought .
I've always been able to download just fine during the Summer sale. I guess it depends on region.

But yeah, just that doesn't mean the sale sucks of course, but then we all know your dislike of Steam and how you like to highlight that :)

Which is the problem with most of the GOG indie releases. "Here's a new excellent indie game that you all already bought much cheaper elsewhere".

Not exactly, but things add up. A few games here, a few there. Plus I haven't worked in seven months, and between GOG and retail (PC & PS3) I've bought probably 80 or more games in that time. So sometimes I think I should stop buying stuff for a while. Then GOG has some good stuff on sale and there I go like so many times before, spending more again when I haven't even played half the games I already have.

It is always nice to see more games receiving GOG's stamp of approval, even if they are indie titles. Extra style points for irritating certain individuals with these releases, once again.

Mmh, after the early indie big bang I really thought there would come something else today. Maybe it's because of summertime and they wanted to go out earlier today ;-) Just out of sheer curiosity, is there something still in the pipe for today or maybe tomorrow?

That is the sad state of affairs for many of us. Not everyone can afford 4 terabytes of games and keep on buying yet more of them. ;-)

Yep, and this is why I wish they would stick to Good Old Games releases with this as additions, not replacements on release days.

adamzs: 4 games were released today, I don't think anyone has any reason to complain about that. Personally, I don't have any of these games and I'm quite interested in playing them.
avatar
Fred_DM: 1) classic games
I'm a crotchety 24 year old, here for the nostalgia, truthfully. I am here for the classics, and DRM-free is icing on the cake. I'm glad we got an oldie today (2001), but it's still too "new" for me; I was hoping for a pre-2000s game.

Still, as I said elsewhere, maybe the staff are taking it slower during the summer months. (Not sure how vacation works over in Poland, admittedly)

EDIT: Oh and on "praising" or not praising GOG: this site is a business, but businesses are run by people, and while I'm guessing to run one you need a certain level of thick skin, considering how active and friendly some of the mods seem (hopefully they really are ;) and how the business is run overall, I try to view it somewhat more than just any old business (if that makes any sense).

So I try to give them quite a bit of praise if they do something that pleases me (DK2 patch was the last great thing that excited me), and while I do complain about stuff I don't like (new-ish releases, too many indie, etc.), I try not to do it every time I come on here. :P

EDIT: Wow, I feel kinda derpy reading and editing my own stuff.
