GOG.com is extremely happy to tell you that while the <span class="bold">very successful "Battle of the Games"</span> has ended, our plans for an exciting summer have only just begun. Following the 66% off Alan Wake series promo, which will be over in two hours, we have prepared something indie fans will love. [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/release_promo_indie_drop]<span class="bold">Today, we&rsquo;re dropping four releases and dropping their prices a neat 50%.</span>

For the next 7 days, four great indie titles: Gemini Rue, DEFCON, Multiwinia, and Uplink are available 50% off. Gemini Rue is a tense, surprising, and challenging sci-fi point-and-click from the publishers of Resonance and the Blackwell Bundle. is a Global Thermonuclear War Simulation in which you prepare your military forces, and nuclear silos, make or break alliances with other superpowers, and finally, fire zee missiles! [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/multiwinia]Multiwinia is the multiplayer-focused (but not multiplayer-only) sequel to Darwinia, a fantastic RTS with simple game mechanics, but great strategic depth. Uplink is a hacker simulator--not your typical game, but strangely entertaining and believable.

Visit the Summer Indie Drop promo page to get DEFCON, Uplink, Gemini Rue, and Multiwinia for 50% off until Thursday, July 19 at 04:59 AM EDT.

dieselguy: I think it's great to have this games available DRM free any time, here on GOG, just becaus they were released in bundle doesn't mean we have to be ungrateful
Not ungrateful, just uninterested. I'd personally rather have them release stuff which isn't released elsewhere, especially older games people are clamouring at the bit for. GOG's releases are still a slow trickle, which just makes releases like this more painful.

I don't know about releasing indies so close to release, it doesn't really feel like they're old..

Anyway, I won't say no to Uplink. It's really got an old school feeling. :)

Aningan: Just because these were in bundles there is no reason for GOG not to expand it's catalog with them. And releasing all at the same time with a discount seems like best way to do it.
As usual, the problem is not that GOG is expanding the catalogue, but that they are doing so (due to their inept release practise) at the cost of their core market.

Now, if we will still see a proper release today, I'm all good, but if that was it for today... Well, I'm sure they can do without my money.

Steam Summer Sale starting today, so you'll need all the money for that anyway.

Leroux: Dunno, call me mental, but I think I would actually be grateful if GOG managed to re-release Blood Omen or System Shock or similar, just not for Uplink, Defcon and Multiwinia. ;)
While that would be a feat, and pretty awesome, they are still doing it for the money. GOG isn't here to do us any favours, they are in it for the money. Their marketing spiel is the best on the market when it comes to old games, but it is still a spiel. I'm gladly supporting them for as long as they keep it up, but I don't owe them anything.

I will show my "gratefulness" the way I show it to handymen, taxi-drivers, prostitutes and cooks. With money.

I've got exactly one currently released game on my Steam Wishlist. I think I will manage ;-P.

I always assumed they were going to try a polarization between the early games of 80s they manage to get running on Windows 7 and well, games they actually can get here but are new and just fit their policy. At the very least, one new and one old every other week or however often they release games.
Folks, it's near 12pm cet and the usual release time is 13pm, so it's very likely we will also see some classics today. So far GOG didn't stopped releasing less old games, where is the problem to add also some great indies to the catalog? Sometimes threads like this reads like a love drama full of jealousies between old and new game releases.

It actually does feel like I'm an old wife while my husband is fooling around with a 20 year old.

Now I know how my future wife will feel in 30 years....
It would be cool to have a specific day for indie releases, e.g. Indie Monday or something like that - that way those only interested in classics could just skip that day and there would be less complaints from them. Unless GOG is using indie releases to gain some time, because they can't keep up with the pace of two classic releases a week ...

As for today, I'm quite confident there will be more.

4 games were released today, I don't think anyone has any reason to complain about that. Personally, I don't have any of these games and I'm quite interested in playing them.

you do if you're here for 1) classic games or 2) games not widely available.

today's releases have been in indie bundles and Steam deals plenty of times. unless you're living under a rock, chances are you've already picked them up if you wanted them.

What are you talking about? DEFCON is from 2006, Uplink is from 2001.

And how is a game that is 6 years old (or 11 for that matter) not a "classic" one?

age isn't everything...

they probably can do ok without your $5.99 or $9.99.... :)

"inept release practise" made me lol.

But they have been widely available for years (I think even DRM free). GOGs core market is the forgotten games of the past which have been neglected by their respective owners. . Before the march "change of direction" you could be pretty sure that the release you would get would be a game unavailable anymore.

Eg, Half Life is even older. Yet, I wouldn't scream hooray for that. Age is not the only factor.
