GOG.com is extremely happy to tell you that while the <span class="bold">very successful "Battle of the Games"</span> has ended, our plans for an exciting summer have only just begun. Following the 66% off Alan Wake series promo, which will be over in two hours, we have prepared something indie fans will love. [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/release_promo_indie_drop]<span class="bold">Today, we&rsquo;re dropping four releases and dropping their prices a neat 50%.</span>

For the next 7 days, four great indie titles: Gemini Rue, DEFCON, Multiwinia, and Uplink are available 50% off. Gemini Rue is a tense, surprising, and challenging sci-fi point-and-click from the publishers of Resonance and the Blackwell Bundle. is a Global Thermonuclear War Simulation in which you prepare your military forces, and nuclear silos, make or break alliances with other superpowers, and finally, fire zee missiles! [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/multiwinia]Multiwinia is the multiplayer-focused (but not multiplayer-only) sequel to Darwinia, a fantastic RTS with simple game mechanics, but great strategic depth. Uplink is a hacker simulator--not your typical game, but strangely entertaining and believable.

Visit the Summer Indie Drop promo page to get DEFCON, Uplink, Gemini Rue, and Multiwinia for 50% off until Thursday, July 19 at 04:59 AM EDT.

Fred_DM: you do if you're here for 1) classic games or 2) games not widely available.

today's releases have been in indie bundles and Steam deals plenty of times. unless you're living under a rock, chances are you've already picked them up if you wanted them.
As I said, I did not own any of them. And I've now bought all of them from GOG. The extra goodies and the lack of DRM, alongside them being conveniently available from the publisher I buy the most games from makes this an excellent deal to me.

As for the lack of classic releases, I agree. I wish GOG could go back to releasing two or more 8+ years old games each week. But chances are, they are running out of good deals to make. There's a point where you need to look at the catalog and be content with the sheer size of the thing and stop expecting getting new stuff to buy.

Still, we can hope, right?

Thats the biggest problem with GOG getting these games.

er, GOG's catalogue is just barely above 400 titles now, with an increasing number of relatively new indie games, some brand new releases, and some games that would never qualify as "good". it's a tiny catalogue compared to 1) what other digital distributors have on offer, and 2) what is still unavailable digitally.

2 classic EA releases a week alone could probably keep GOG going for another 2 years...
I for one am happy to have the Introversion games in the cloud, permanently available for download. And if GOG's version of Gemini Rue works on my Win7 x64 netbook, that's just icing on the cake.
So it's Gemini Rue or DEFCON (if it has single player mode). Cool.
Bought Uplink, will probably get Gemini Rue.

adamzs: 4 games were released today, I don't think anyone has any reason to complain about that. Personally, I don't have any of these games and I'm quite interested in playing them.

Not necessarily. I don't buy games from services that require me to be connected to the web to play or mandate a special client or downloader, so steam is nothing but vapour for me.

For a while, I used to buy humble bundles, but now that GOG has entered that domain, I will stop that too.

So I'm grateful (yes, grateful) that GOG is releasing indie as well as old and new games. I'm pretty sure they're grateful that I'm spending my money here. I believe it's a good business model if both sides are grateful.

Bottom line: I used to buy old games at GOG and newish/indie games elsewhere. Now I no longer buy games anywhere else but GOG and I'm mighty pleased.

Is that your way of saying GOG should start releasing games you want?

GOG is a digital distributor, of course they need to keep track of what the demands on the market are. But they shouldn't be forced to release games based on what is or isn't available at other distributors. This week they have released 6 games, 3 of which easily qualify as "classics" or "oldies". When the standard pace of GOG releases is 2 a week, there's absolutely no reason for alarm.

DEFCON SP is, iirc, with MP with bots.

The game is a nice "experimental game", but only buying it for the SP is rather risky. IF you get it, get it now. 10$ is imo to much for SP alone.

Is there a version of Gemini Rue that doesn't?

only Blitzkrieg qualifies as a classic. indies don't because they're available everywhere and have been shoved down everybody's throat at least half a dozen times now.

by "classic" i mean games that would have been released on GOG BEFORE GOG shifted to being a more mainstream digital distributor. none of the indies would have been released then, but Blitzkrieg most certainly would have.

so, so far Blitzkrieg has been this week's ONLY Good Old Game.

if there is, it has yet to be unearthed... ;)

How exactly is that praise for a company that wants our money? Honestly, I don't see people praising Amazon for releasing another 5 games today.

Congratulating GOG for a release was fair and good when it were games not available anywhere else. But simply catching up with the industries standard isn't getting much praise from me.

It will probably be a mood point in twenty minutes anyway. Then we can argue if I was wrong with the bitching or if my bitching made them release more games .... ;-P

We are at a core disagreement then. You seem to have a very specific definition of a classic game and I don't share it. That's alright though, there's no need for squabbling over that.
And where have all the old games gone ?
