With four games and a bunch of additional content for each one, today's release of Battle Isle Platinum is one of the largest in GOG's history.

Battle Isle Platinum covers a huge chunk of the acclaimed turn-based strategy/tactics series and consists of:
- Battle Isle 1 including Data Disk 1 & Battle Isle ‘93 & Historyline: 1914-1918,
- Battle Isle 2 including Scenery CD “Titan’s Legacy”,
- Battle Isle 3 along with extensive video sequences,
- Incubation and the wilderness missions.
That's easily enough to keep your inner strategist busy for weeks, or months if you work for a living!

So, what is this series about, you ask? It's about strategy and tactics at their very finest. It's about using the units at your disposal to the best of your ability in order to achieve specific goals, rather than building an impenetrable fortress, preparing a massive zerg and spamming your enemy with it, rinse, repeat. Lastly, but perhaps most importantly, the Battle Isle series is about a deep, involving storyline with a huge backstory, both in-game and in "feelies". The latter are, of course, available with our release in digital form.

Go ahead and see for yourself why this series achieved cult classic status.

ng: Yeah, I know but it wasn't about the price ($10 is not that much for a great game). I just hoped to have my Incubation as "Incubation" and not as "Battle Isle Platinum", that's all. But on the second thought it really doesn't matter as long as I can play it, right?
Well yeah, exactly. In any case the installer will probably let you install just Incubation if that's all you're interested in (same here, pretty much). It's just your virtual shelf that will be 'sullied' by the inclusion of the other games. :P
This seems like something I'd be into. Consider me sold.
Say, I just noticed that "Battle Isle - the Desert" is set to the German keymap. (Which means that the 'Y' to quit is where the 'Z' is on a QWERTY keyboard. German Keymaps are QWERTZ.)

I believe I can fix my dosbox settings to fix this, but the GoG folks probably want to check this for all the various DOS games in this.

In other news, Incubation is INCREDIBLE.
Has anyone worked out if INCUBATION works with 3d acceleration/ glide wrapper as in the screenies it lookes very pixelated.

domgrief: Blue Byte were one of those rare publishers that had a knack for turning out classics, and I miss most of their games. I remember Settlers II, Archimedean Dynasty, Incubation, BI3, Albion and Dr Dragos Madcap Chase all really fondly.

Mnemon: Yeah. My brother used to work for BlueByte up until just before they were taken over by UbiSoft. They did have some nice ideas and / or had planned to act as publishers for a number of games [including the Multi-player Battle Isle spin off and the like] that were partially quite far along ... but were ditched once BlueByte was "re-focused" on producing sequels to their "core series" by UbiSoft.

The more "realistic" look and the attempts to turn the Settlers into something more akin to real-time strategy came from that direction, too.

It is and was a shame.
So true. BlueByte was the best german developer by far and nowadays almost nothing is left from its glory.
Incubation is super slow on my computer. Considering it came out in... 1997, I think that might be an issue from the software end.
My prayers have been answered.

Incubation is my all-time favourite childhood game, the one which is so encrusted with nostalgia that I will never stop loving it.

It may not have the depth or strategy as the x-com games, but it has a design and atmosphere that I've never seen replicated in any title since.

Instant purchase. I am a very happy man today :D

Holy cow! My wishful thinking did come true. I was so hoping for Battle Isle when this month was to be Ubisoft releases again. Gotta love the old Blue Byte titles. Now, more Settlers (1,3,4) please! ;)
/me drools...
Mmmm, finally Incubation + expansion... tasty! Though I am really not interested in the other BA games, so I will wait for a promo for this one. If only it was just Incubation for a 5.99 price mark, would've been an instabuy.
Hmm... Just downloaded and it seems that Shadow of the Emperor is missing from the soundtrack.

What sort of Battle Isle 3 soundtrack doesn't have *that* on it?

:P
It's funny to see the divide between "I love Incubation, the rest are meh" and then those who love Advance Wars (like me) that go "The first ones are great, Incubuation was okay but different".

Incubation was unexpectedly good BUT it could get way too hard.

Me and a friend used to play it at the same time and I got stuck at one mission while he had breezed through it. I didn't understand how he did it - so I asked him to show me. And he did - and died, and died, and died, and died, and died ... After 10 tries and an entire Sunday wasted, he gave up. He just couldn't pass that mission anymore even though he passed it the first time. And there you have it - Incubation's biggest weakness, is the random nature of the game. Some missions are rather unbalanced and require a lot of luck to pull them off properly which is a shame. I remember one mission where you'd be under fire the moment it started, and you'd get your ass kicked unless you got lucky and could take out the bulk in the first wave.

With the first Battle Isle games, you just needed a good tactical mind - you could already predict the outcome of any battle depending on the terrain, troops used, etc. - no random luck involved.
This is one of the collections I was waiting for. Thanks, that now the waiting is finally over. :)))

All thumbs up!
If there is some sort of Glide wrapper included or a D3D fix for Incubation then sold for those games alone. I like the others in the series but Incubation was a favourite and ran well on the SLI linked Voodoo 2 cards I had. But of course these days I use a modern D3D/OpenGL card and the software graphics mode is pretty poor. Has any one tried it yet and seen what changes if any are present?
