Final 48 hours to buy 3 games up to 85% off & unlock 3 mystery mutator games for only $2 each.

The experiment is at its peak. The game selection is reaching its critical mass, and the screens in the lab are flashing images of fun awesomeness at the speed of light. We're risking a serious joy overload here, but one who takes no chances never makes any progress!

Today, we're mixing things up one final time in our Mutator Promo! Both the first batch of discounted base games and the batch we've added on Wednesday, are available simultaneously! At the same time, behind the curtain, we're adding even more games to the test tubes, so - again - you can come across previously not encountered mutators!

Get at least 3 out of 70+ great titles to unlock 3 out of over 50 mystery mutator games for $2 each. What are they? Well, this wouldn't be very scientific if we knew that prior to the experiment! Might be a $5 game, might be an $45 game. Can your personal wishlist rig the outcome of the experiment? Who knows! The beauty of our chaotic universe at its finest, now in the Mutator Promo on GOG.com.

These are the final hours of this promo offer. It will Sunday, October 12, at 10:59AM GMT. Don't miss your chance at experiencing the wonder of discovery!

CelestialBunny: Go ahead and throw money at GOG like a bunch of saps, this whole "next big thing" that people's mentality drives towards is outdated and does not apply, esp not in the modern age, I suppose you all grabbed Alien Isolation today rght? You all gonna buy Dragon Age 3, AC Unity and AC Rogue on launch day right?

Me, I'll just sit here and follow my newest rule - wait 2 years, get 75% cheap, might be outdated by 2 years but I'll be paying far less money, you lot work out who was better with money....I'm done here

Cavalary: Only 2? I usually go with 5+ :)
Last Gen Gamer, eh?!!:D

Seriously everyone is entitled to buy and play whatever they want and whenever they feel like it.It's all good.

Cavalary: 1. How can you not understand how the promo works? Did you read the news post, paying attention? Did you take a good look at the promo page, again paying attention? Did you apply some basic reasoning skills to the observations made and information obtained by the previously mentioned activities? Because if you didn't, well, PBCAK. And if you did and still failed to grasp it, er, there is a certain old-time USER definition that'd apply.
To be fair, the dominant advert at the top of gog.com does not take you to a news post or an explanation, rather directly to the promo page.

There, the instructions say to pick three games to unlock 3 mutators. Selecting games for purchase causes the lock icons to disappear, as expected. It may not be obvious that you must then select up to three of those mutator boxes. Also, I reckon other game sellers refer to buying games on steam as unlocking them, which likely adds to the confusion.

Am I confused by the interface? Nope, but I'm pretty familiar with gog promos. I don't think anyone is being particularly obtuse here, there's just some different expectations from the term "unlock".

MrAlphaNumeric: Thanks! Never had to use that feature before. Handy in this case :)
Hide it in the hall of shame!:D

My mutators.. don't mutate at all!
Even with logout \ no cookies \ other device, they're still the same.
They're carved in stone forever, they're hardcoded in my account +_+

Now everyone values money the same way. Not everyone is trying to pay the least he can get away with. Some people spend money to contribute rather than just get something in return. Similarly - some here buy stuff only to give it away to others. It's not all about getting "the best deal". Spending money can mean a lot more.

mm3n: Any ideas what happens if you buy the 3 games as a gift and pick 3 mutators on checkout? Will I know what the mutators will be before I send the gift?
avatar
ALH: You'll know the mutator games after purchase.Gift the entire order, all 6 games, to yourself and you can redeem the games you want individually and the games you don't want you can still gift.
I forgot to gift my order - so I got Rex Nebular, Hotline Miami and MegaRace 1+2.
None of which I really wanted.
*Sigh*
Oh well, win some, lose some.

My mutators also refuse to mutate, and I already own two of them elsewhere.

They are, at least for a long time, that was quite clear early in the day. See a few reports of them changing without a purchase for some reason, but those seem exceptions (just like the one case I saw reported of them not changing despite a purchase). May be that it selects a few users to change for every so often, who knows, but cookies or such have nothing to do with it.

Vythonaut: Honestly, I can't see the reason why you feel ripped. It's not that these boxes come free of charge if you tick them - you've just bought three games with an awesome discount already! What if you ticked all the three of them boxes, charged you 1.59€ × 3 and turned out to be games that you wouldn't like it?

cannard: I think you're missing the point here. The idea behind this promo was to pick three discounted games and buy three more and see what you get. Whether I would like those games or not is a matter of consequence. At least I would have gone through the process as promised. And what if the three random games turned out to be three awesome/pricey games on my wishlist? Slight chance, but at least there is a chance. And the three games I picked anyway were games I only had remote interest in at best (Robin Hood, Silent Service 1+2, and Total Overdose, mainly because of the positive reviews and that, well, they seemed better than the others... Broken Age aside, which I went against because of its I believe $12.49 price tag, stretching what's in my debit account currently a little too far).
Oh! OK then, you've got a point here sir! :-) To tell the truth, i'm going for three games but i'm too afraid to hit the mutators... who knows what's coming out of the lab/ vault (13). :-D

Yeah, not only have the mutations not changed for me, but since I gifted my last order and didn't redeem the games I didn't want, it's trying to give me the same games again. :/
If I redeem them, I wonder if the mutators will change...

I gifted them to myself and redeemed all of it. Mutators didn't change. I'd buy more but not when I'd ge the same games all over again. What's the point of that? :(

Bummer. I guess I'll just wait until the next mutation in a couple days and hope for better luck.
Haven't been able to find help for this anywhere else, but after I put in my payment info, (I'm buying three of the mutator promotion games along with all three mutators) it says, "order limit exceeded". I've tried several times to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Question: if I gift to myself then, is it likely the mutators games are games I already own, compare to if I just buy for myself? I do hope that if you puy for yourself they don't give you games you own already..

undeadcow: I'm curious to see what will "mutate" in two days - will it be the games on visible offer, the "mutator" hidden ones, or both?
Neither. Instead all the games in our libraries will turn into copies of Jack Keane 2.
