Final 48 hours to buy 3 games up to 85% off & unlock 3 mystery mutator games for only $2 each.

The experiment is at its peak. The game selection is reaching its critical mass, and the screens in the lab are flashing images of fun awesomeness at the speed of light. We're risking a serious joy overload here, but one who takes no chances never makes any progress!

Today, we're mixing things up one final time in our <span class="bold">Mutator Promo</span>! Both the first batch of discounted base games and the batch we've added on Wednesday, are available simultaneously! At the same time, behind the curtain, we're adding even more games to the test tubes, so - again - you can come across previously not encountered mutators!

Get at least 3 out of 70+ great titles to unlock 3 out of over 50 mystery mutator games for $2 each. What are they? Well, this wouldn't be very scientific if we knew that prior to the experiment! Might be a $5 game, might be an $45 game. Can your personal wishlist rig the outcome of the experiment? Who knows! The beauty of our chaotic universe at its finest, now in the <span class="bold">Mutator Promo</span> on GOG.com.

These are the final hours of this promo offer. It will Sunday, October 12, at 10:59AM GMT. Don't miss your chance at experiencing the wonder of discovery!

ktchong: Do research before you pay for something, i.e., research what was the lowest price ever for a game on sale, if there was a way to crack a secret game before you paid for it, if the GOG version has any issue or problem, etc. I did see many dishonest, selfish people in here who were trying to "con" or push other people into blindly buying mutator games, hoping that those other people would give away the mutator games later on, (so in essence, they themselves would benefit from other people buying mutator games.) But, like all other cons, you would only fall for that one if you did not do research.
What? Where was this? Certainly not in any of the threads I was reading! There were at least two separate threads collating all of the mutation games and providing assistance on how to find out what you were going to get. There was also a thread created for giving away unwanted mutator games but a lot of the time people were offering up trades; they were certainly not trying to trick people into buying games they didn't want!

What you have described is certainly not the kind of behaviour I've ever seen in these forums - quite the opposite in fact, whichn is why I've continued to come back here every day since the Spring Insomnia sale and why I buy games as gifts purely to drop into the BBBBoB giveaway.

LynetteC: On the second day, I was caught out by GOG using an addition date rather than a release date for one of the games - I thought it could possibly be Knock Knock, but turned out to be Smugglers V.

phaolo: Eh? They were ALL addition dates, not release dates!
O_o
Nope, not all: :-)

"1991-12-25": "Darwinia is a confirmed possibility [$9.99], also Wing Commander 1+2 [$5.99], could be more games"

1991 - GOG opened for business in 2008!

I think my confusion came from the wording in the script:

gogReleaseDate": product.salesVisibility.from.date.split(" ")[0] // GOG release date
});
}
}

var gogReleaseDates = {

Because I was at work, I didn't really have much time to try to work out the games for myself so I waited until I got home to run the script. All the hard work had been done by that time! :-)

That date is just a default value!
GOG seems to have lost the data somehow :P

Interesting. I did wonder who would release a game on Christmas Day! :-)
Mutators notwithstanding, did anyone else enjoy the 80%+ off sales titles as immensely as I did? GG, GOG, you got me addicted to browsing your catalog, introduced me to a lot of interesting games I had not heard of before, and got me to part with a lot more money than I had originally anticipated spending on this promotion. And yet I love you for it.

Some promo marketing feedback:
I didn't actually purchase any Mutators, but I think the fact that the Mutators were there and could be sussed out got me to spend about 3x more than I would have otherwise. Even if it was not necessarily intended, using information pieced together on the forum and checking the source code of the checkout page ended up being something of a "game" in and of itself, and one that motivated me to continuously find more titles I might be interested in to see if one of the games I unlocked would be worth it, which then had me research the titles in greater depth and led me to put newly discovered games on my wishlist as well as purchase games I had never even previously heard of or considered before -- but which I am now very excited to try out.

I both loved and hated it. I bought twelve games from the mutator promo, and I'm debating on another from the big games sale. Most of the mutator games? Only two of them were actively on my wishlist, one I'd had my eye on but waited to see future promos when it'd be on sale, six were 'sure, why not?' purchases, and three were for a friend.

I purchased some mutators, but only on my last round. After I purchased the nine I wanted (without mutators), I checked through the code to see what new mutators I had, and wouldn't you know it but one of my wanted games was a mutator (Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav). I put together a gift list for a friend -- I had to choose all three mutators in order to get the mutator I wanted, but it worked out okay as I got a second game I'd been curious on (Eador: Genesis), and my friend got a bonus game (Shelter).

If I hadn't been able to see the mutators, I would have stopped after nine games. Because I could, GOG got an extra $17 from me -- a little less than I would have paid for my wanted mutator up front, and I was able to gift my friend a few new games.

I'd like for the random games to show in the checkout box before purchase -- I know it won't likely happen as it defeats the purpose of this kind of promo to purchase a mystery game for $2 and not see what you get until you check out. However, I (and I imagine a fair few others) was pretty much doing that anyway.
I ended up buying nine games and skipping the mutators altogether. I either owned the mutator selections already or had no interest in the available selections I found at checkout. It would have been nice to see at least one or two from my actual wishlist show up. Average discount was around 80% off though per game I did purchase though, all for about $16. That was a decent deal in itself. Unfortunately I already owned most of the better available titles for sale already, so this promo was about picking up some interesting scraps.
