Final 48 hours to buy 3 games up to 85% off & unlock 3 mystery mutator games for only $2 each.

The experiment is at its peak. The game selection is reaching its critical mass, and the screens in the lab are flashing images of fun awesomeness at the speed of light. We're risking a serious joy overload here, but one who takes no chances never makes any progress!

Today, we're mixing things up one final time in our Mutator Promo! Both the first batch of discounted base games and the batch we've added on Wednesday, are available simultaneously! At the same time, behind the curtain, we're adding even more games to the test tubes, so - again - you can come across previously not encountered mutators!

Get at least 3 out of 70+ great titles to unlock 3 out of over 50 mystery mutator games for $2 each. What are they? Well, this wouldn't be very scientific if we knew that prior to the experiment! Might be a $5 game, might be an $45 game. Can your personal wishlist rig the outcome of the experiment? Who knows! The beauty of our chaotic universe at its finest, now in the Mutator Promo on GOG.com.

These are the final hours of this promo offer. It will Sunday, October 12, at 10:59AM GMT. Don't miss your chance at experiencing the wonder of discovery!
Will there be the same games for sale the whole week or will everything change after one day?

EDIT: Not the hidden games but the regular ones

Well, the mutators got me:

Influx (relatively OK ... not really happy through)
Wing Commander 1+2 (OK)
Sword of the Samurai (baaah)

StayPuft: Wow, GOG! Great way to cheat your loyal customers!

Why don't you send me $10 and I'll send you something cool back.
Why "cheat"? It's not like they are forcing you to buy random games. The discounts are already quite good without adding any gamble.
I bought 3 items from the list due to the great discount but didn't choose to add any mutations, guess I'm not much of a gambler.

Happy owner of the Dracula trilogy, finally!

ReynardFox: Good call, I broke my no gambling rule and got screwed. Negated the savings on the games I actually wanted too.
I fell for it anyway. I don't feel too bad, it was not a complete disaster. Frankly I would have preferred some new indie games instead of Sword of Samurai and Rex Nebular, but oh well.

I did the same :)

jepf999: What is the point of "owning" all games on GOG? It's not even a collection worth of showing to someone else, because nearly everyone is able to build up such a collection simply by putting money into it.

No offense meant, just curious.
You are absolutely right. There is no point ...

We'll be mixing things up in 48 hours or so.

jepf999: I'm a "victim" of the last summer sale, cured now when it comes to sales. Maybe this is the wrong place to ask this question, but:

What is it about "collecting" games on GOG? Obviously, there are many many users which buy games because they arre cheap, not even intending to play them some time in the future. So why - in such cases - should I invest my money in collecting digital-only games that I'll never play instead of the full and real package in form of used boxed games from ebay, etc.?

I started collecting series out of nostalgia. Ultima, specifically.

What it is about collecting? I don't know? People collect cards, bottle caps, figurines and all sorts of stuff, why ask why about such a common human endeavor?

I collect from GOG exclusively because even though I won't play the majority of the over hundred games I own, I know that they are DRM free and if I ever wanted to check them out or show them to my grandchildren in the future, I would be able to do it. And I hate Steam for trying to monopolize online gamestores and forcing people to always be online, plus don't have an account with them.

if you don't want to take the risk, don't buy a mutator. I didn't and I am happy with that decision!
Well my original sale wasnt so bad:

Swords of The Pits + DLC (A game honestly I didnt want, but ... is ok, looks nice) (Problem is I mostly got all I want from the list)
And OUTLAST DLC, I wanted this one.

But the mutators? HOLY S....

FIRST PUNCHER, CAPITALISM 2 ... I DONT WANT THESE GAMES worst "surprise" promo ever (at least for me...)

Well at least "INFLUX" was on my wishlist... never again will "blindy" buy anything... but could been worse, I could got "Sword of the Samurai..." ¬¬

Well, not sure about the GOG part, as most of my games are within bundles (although have hundreds on GOG too).

But for the "why" part... at least for me it's all about building a personal game library. Basically if I ever want to play some genre, or its subgenre, I know I can just plug my hard drive in, and I will find something.

Yes, I will be also wasting money on games that I will not be playing during my lifetime. But then again, for the price of a single "hot" console game, you can get like 100-300 digital-only games for PC, so why not?

It still makes a better hobby than smoking or drinking (neither of which I ever do).
Something interesting to do when I'm done for the day.

retsuseiba: Buy 3 games then pay extra for the chance of getting a game I might want (not to even say I don't own)? Even if you throw a promo with 3 games I really want, I doubt I'll pay that extra 2 bucks for a very small chance of deep discount. Nothankyou.
You don't need to pay $2 extra to unlock the mystery games, instead you unlock the mystery offers automatically after buying the first three, and those mystery games will cost $2 each to buy, regardless of their regular price. I can see how the OP could be misunderstood the way you describe though.

Anyway, I think the concept of the promo is fun, but it's only good for those who are actually interested in this specific selection. Personally I have trouble even finding one single game among the 30 that I really want and don't own yet, so I'll just skip this.

gizmomelb: not any more... the mutator games are just listed as the $2 (or whatever local currency) and no mention of what price they originally were. at least in Chrome.

I'm not keen on buying blind.

k1bell: In the checkout page you can see the total discount you're getting (inclusive of your mutator's discount) from which you can use to make some guesses.
thanks for the info - I've tried a number of orders and I'm getting different order numbers, but the discount is always showing the same for me - approx 70% ($30 roughly). so either I'm getting the same mutator games each time or the discount thing isn't working under Chrome.
