Evil Genius, Strike Commander, Syndicate Wars, and 7 other great classic games, now for your Mac!

GOG.com is all about bringing you the best games in the history, old and new, and DRM-free. While there are tons of great new titles that we're proud to have in our offer, the classics are--and have always been--in high demand. This time, our Mac update focuses solely on the games that strike that nostalgic notes in the hearts of gamers. Today, we give you 10 classic titles ready to run on your Mac OS X systems. Let's take a look on the new arrivals, shall we?

For strategy fans that appreciate humor, we've got [url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/evil_genius]Evil Genius, a real-time mad scientist lair management sim in which you terrorize the world with your inventions. Your's for only $9.99. What's that? Too much humor for your taste? Syndicate Wars, a violent squad based real-time tactical game set in the grim cyberpunk future of corporate wars, is as serious as dystopian visions get, and it's only $5.99.

Action fans that crave for some nostalgic FPS action will appreciate [url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/rise_of_the_triad__dark_war]Rise of the Triad: Dark War, a blatantly brutal, and curiously crazy classic first person shooter from the 1990s, for only $5.99. Or, if you want to go even further down the memory lane, there's also Blake Stone: Planet Strike, one of the first FPS games to feature a prominent hero and a captivating storyline ($5.99 as well).

Up for a brawl? We've got you covered. Grab [url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/guilty_gear_x2_reload]Guilty Gear X2 #Reload, a fast-paced 2D fighting game with crazy anime-style fighters and a rock/metal soundtrack, for only $5.99. And if that's not enough frantic battles for you, try Guilty Gear Isuka. This one even features a side-scrolling adventure mode, and more for only $5.99.

Do you feel like it's the time to spread your wings? [url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/strike_commander]Strike Commander is an action-oriented modern-day jet fighter combat simulation from the creators of Wing Commander, for only $5.99. But if you prefer not to mix flying with combat, we recommend Slipstream 5000, an incredible airborne jet-racing game that's full of supersonic fun and action, now also in multiplayer mode! Yours for only $5.99.

RPG fans should be happy about the addition of [url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/darklands]Darklands, the open-ended realistic medieval adventure in which your party fights the heresy of devil-worshippers. Or, on the other hand, you could easily switch sides and become the Litil Divil, out on his great puzzle-packed adventure in the pixel-art hell. Both titles for only $5.99 each.

That's all Mac-compatible games we've prepared for today. We hope you'll have tons of great fun with them. As usual on GOG.com, if you previously purchased any of the above, you can now access the Mac version from your game library, without any additional payment.

See you next time!

011284mm: Very nice games, no Mac gamers should be complaining for a while.
that we don't, shame we still have to listen to the Linux guys(don't get me wrong I do support them), the "Y no classics" guys, the "y you no read my mind and release whatever random game I'm thinking off" guys and all the other complaints we see on a daily basis here.

SCPM: Are the extra levels from ROTT already included in the Mac version? If not, how do I go about adding them?
avatar
Fuzzyfireball: Probably the same way you would on Windows. Put the files in the game's directory and launch the setup to choose the custom data file. I don't have a Mac tho so this is only a guess.
Alright, thanks for the help! The extra levels aren't included so what you have to do is, after adding the game to your Applications folder, open that folder in Finder and right-click on the ROTT icon and go to 'Show Package Contents'. Go to Contents -> Resources -> Rise of the Triad Dark-War.boxer and right-click on that file and go to 'Show Package Contents'. Go to C Rise of The Triad.harddisk and drag the extracted files from the extra levels zip right into that directory. Then you can play them when you run the setup program.
thanks gog!!
Very nice! Always good to see new Mac additions.
Sweetness! Three of my games are now magically upgraded to Mac versions and there are two more I just added to my wishlist, since they are for Mac too now: Evil Genius and Syndicate Wars. Yay!

Thanks GOG! Keep these fine Mac releases coming! :D
I am happy for the mac guys and girls more games always a good thing.

G-Doc: Good point, sir! We'll pass that to our web-dev team and we'll see what can be done (and when).
avatar
cyboff: Yes, Sir! There are similar requests sitting nicely in the wishlist for quite a long time :D
e.g. :
http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/show_mac_compatible_games_in_my_games_list
http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/option_to_filter_games_by_platform_pc_mac
Until it's been done you can make do with entering the catalogue, filtering by system, and then looking those that display "OWNED" instead of the game's price.
It's far from ideal, but not much of a hassle.
More Mac games is always good news :D Here's to a bright and Macful future!
Odd. What made you guys decide to Macify the second Blake Stone over the first? Should have done both at the same time. Just sayin'. =P

Darling_Jimmy: Oh fiddlesticks. PC users are such delicate flowers.
I'm adding your name to my spreadsheet.

I am doing it that way, but as you said - it is very far from ideal ...
It was maybe intended, that you can search "mac" in the game shelf search field, but it is not working properly , giving me only few results from all that mac games I own :( (maybe they just forgot to tag newly released mac games?)
avatar
Darling_Jimmy: Thanks. One request, however: can you please tag the games as updated when they get new Mac versions?
avatar
G-Doc: I'm afraid that would annoy the hell out of PC-only users. That's part of the reason we make these "Mac Update" announcements. You get the list of all recently updated games here. And you can always see the whole Mac catalog at: http://www.gog.com/catalogue using the "Sort by: System" option.
So why the hell I got quite a few times an update notification when the only thing updated was the installer? Far more annoying than seeing a Mac version being added :P
Really wish I could closely check the porting process at the GOG headquarters!
And just for curiosity's sake: will you guys make available the HiB mac ports of Stacking and Costume Quest?

Because usually the updated installer came with a fix that was worthy an updated flag, such as Slipstream 5000 and multiplayer being fixed :D.

Costume quest I already ported on my site, Stacking is more a pain in the ass, its working, but its "slow", I expect thats the reason they haven't either.
