Hey Gang,

Do any of the racing type games allow the use of a joy stick? Or are there any games that work particularly well with a stick? I like my Logitech Attack 3 and I bet it would be fun with the right game. Thanks for any replies!

At GoG: Freespace 1 and 2

In general: Freespace 1 and 2 :p

Or Mechwarrior 4 (which is available for free, from Mektek). More suited toward a mouse/keyboard, but it just isn't fun without a joystick.

That being said, I generally avoid racing games with joysticks. Just never feels "right" to me, but your mileage might vary.

To be honest, I tend to think that joysticks are better suited to flying games. Unless they're the old school ones with the ball on top of a shaft in which case Pac Man type games are what those are for.

Pretty much every type of input device has a game it's good for. I just wish I still had my pinball controller.

EDIT: Terminal Velocity is a great one that can be had from 3D Realms.

Not to be a party pooper, but that's just wrong. Seriously, I had that joystick for, like, two weeks, and immediately after that got myself to the store and bought Extreme 3D pro. The former one was cheap, had a pitiful base (you had to keep it pressed down or it would capsize) and was almost as expensive as the latter one. The only "plus" was it was also for the left handed. Unimportant for me. So give yourself a load off and get a better joystick, I swear I still have bad memories about that waste of money.

On the other hand, if it suits you, forget what I just said. I could be that only I made a big deal out of it.
In addition to the Freespace games there's also Descent. Plus there's a flight sim or two around somewhere. Ah yes...

F/A-18E Super Hornet
Red Baron Pack
Independence War 1&2 are well suited for the joy of sticks.
IL2 1946
I-War 1 &2
Comanche vs Hokum
Apache vs Havoc
Descent 3
Darkstar One
Restaurant Empire

GameRager: I'm surprised no one mentioned the 3drealms(?) favorite Terminal Velocity.
I'm surprised, your surprised because surprisingly Hedwards edited his post and did mention it. Which surprised the hell outta me. (i've been watching fireworks and drinking quite heavily)

I second the Mechwarrior 4 suggestion, best use of a Joystick in any game.
I got Comanche vs Hokum during that last sale along with the Pro Pinball series. Problem being, I didn't have a good joystick to play with. More importantly, I didn't know a good joystick if it showed up at my doorstep. I've been out of the loop as far as flight joysticks go since about the time that game controllers used serial and parallel ports, and usb wasn't even an idea yet.

Thanks to this topic, I found the stick I needed. Checked out some other reviews on the internet and found a good deal. Picked up a very nice Extreme 3D Pro for $14 total. I'll be playing Mechwarrior 4 with it as well. It doesn't seem like that long ago I picked up that holographic Mechwarrior 3 box at Ross for $5 and loved playing it. Now the fourth game is totally free, and I'll be playing it the right way this time. :P
Just a bit of a rant, but I feel the joystick is a dying peripheral in this day and age FPS dominated gaming, there are few current games that really could use a joystick which is sad cause I got a Saitek X 52 Pro which is not a cheap joystick at all.
