A masterclass in storytelling!

Moebius, a fantastically written point-and-click adventure from Jane Jensen, the creator of Gabriel Knight and Grey Matter, now available 60% off. That's only $11.99 for the next 24 hours.

You are Malachi Rector, an expert in antiques with a rather unique ability to transform people and clues into puzzles using your extraordinary perceptive skills and photographic memory. You are also a bit of a bastard, with a predilection for snide remarks and cynical humor. The riveting story will take you round the world and back as you uncover the bits and pieces of a dangerous theory that might change the way we think about space and time. With plenty of electrifying moments, unforgettable characters, and an original soundtrack (available both in high-quality MP3 and FLAC format) Moebius will reignite your passion for story-centric adventuring.

If you crave engaging characters and a gripping story, that will suck you in right up to the very end, grab Moebius for $11.99 on GOG.com. The offer lasts until Thursday, September 4, at 9:59AM GMT.

cal74: I think that in good hands (the guys who made the Gabriel Knight 1 & 2 for Sierra) it could have been a great game but the developers (which are not the same as Gray Matter I expect because it was way better) here have done an horrendous job (is it the same team which is working on the Gabriel Knight 1 remake... that'd explain a lot of things :( ).
Phoenix Online Studios is the developer of Moebius (they also made Cognition and The Silver Lining before that). They're indeed working on the GK1 remake now, but they're continuing the work of another team that had actually started that project, but was let go at one point (can't recall what was the reason for the switch exactly).

Erich_Zann: [Biased highly disappointed backer opinion incoming :]

It's a puzzle-less piece of shit, on the level of Broken Age when it comes to actual gameplay.
During the kickstarter, Jane Jensen talked about doing two difficulty modes, a "casual" one and a "Sierra" one. Guess which one was left in the planning room (if it even existed there in the first place) due to the minimal budget.

XYCat: What's a Sierra difficulty?
You can die while running down the stairs or picking your nose? :D
Dying by picking your nose is nothing short of classic !
I personally think that Sierra nailed it with King's Quest 6 & Gabriel Knight 1 (also Space Quest 5 & the Quest For Glory games, but different designers) ; hence my high hopes when Jane Jensen mentioned this, because I read it as "I'm going to do a game like these two again".

Fast forward to release (& for me completion) day, and witness my disappointment.

Then again, Sierra or not Sierra, Moebius' capital offense is that it got nothing in terms of actual puzzles/challenge. You couldn't die or get into a deadend in Monkey Island, Loom or Indiana Jones series (except for the fighting sequences of the latter) but they still provided some challenge. I'm never tired to bring up Loom when it comes to puzzles as I think it's the epitome of an easy game done right, as opposed to the non-games like Broken Age, Moebius or the nowadays TellTale manure.

You die running down the stairs, because you poked your nose 10 hours ago in another country WITHOUT using a tissue.

Actually in Loom you could if you forgot to write down a spell didn#t have a savegame before it. The spells were generated on every new game start AFAIR.

True, although some wefts you can learn in several places if I recall right. Time to reinstall I guess.

Anyway, I don't count player stupidity as an in-game deadend.

The player being too dumb/lazy to use a notepad to write down everything of note he comes across (of which there is quite few in Loom anyway) has nothing to do with the "if you go right on the first screen instead of left, you won't be able to finish the game because an object essential to solve puzzle #65 was on the left, and you can't backtrack, neener neener !" deadends Sierra used to be fond of ; exhibit A = King's Quest 5.
Great protagonist, a real human bean

Still sounds like a better game than Moebius, Broken Age and The Walking Dead combined.
And realistic too ! After all, people hate you for things you've said or done decades ago. Dying for something you did aeons ago ? Now that's immershun.

On a more serious note, the worst Sierra offenders when it came to insane deadends / unfair deaths had a rather low amount of screens anyway (Space Quest 4 that I recently played comes to mind), so replaying from scratch wasn't that time consuming, since we all scribble(d) down a LOTR omnibus worth of notes anyway.

dangit, I saw "Moebius" in the RSS feed and momentarily thought it meant the Origin classic had finally come to GOG.
Still too expensive. Will wait for higher cut. Anyway thanks for discount GOG.

Indeed, I remember Larry2 - where you couldn't get safely into the airport if you haven't collected a flower from the beach some scenes before.

I wouldn't even complement the story. IMO the worst thing Jensen has written.

Or.. you cannot get from the cruise ship to the island alive if you haven't picked up some stuff earlier.. just to throw them away when in the lifeboat :)

Wow. That's hilariously bad-looking, and not in a good way. =/

I still don't understand why one would use crappy 3D instead of 2D, especially for 3rd person point&clicks.
Cognition for instance, besides being a shit game, looks just as bad as Moebius does (same engine ?).

For fuck's sake look at Stasis and weep ; or Primordia to see what atmosphere one can invoke with pixels. And that's only talking recent/upcoming games.

I guess 2D requires an actual artist on board...

Daliz: I will probably instabuy this when the dev gets the promised Linux version out & on GOG.. :)
same here.
