gandalf.nho: Delusional KSs? What about this one: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1376466869/lore and the second try: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1376466869/lore-0
Yowser. Surely nothing can beat these...
This one was pretty amazing:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/120873716/your-world

The guy behind this project won $27 million in the lottery in 2007 and then, despite not having any actual skills, decided to become a video game designer and raise $1.1 million for a F2P MMO on Kickstarter.

HypersomniacLive: I missed that, why was it cancelled (and deleted)?
avatar
spindown: The campaign was canceled because very few people were willing to donate money to Uwe Boll, so he kind of just gave up. The page is still up but doesn't show up if you search for it:

Beautiful
Man would I ever have a huge list, I tend to be of the opinion that all kickstarters, and everyone involved in them, are delusional. :P

Eh, maybe I'm missing something here, but if he's a millionaire, why does he need Kickstarter to fund his game?

Wealth begets greed?

He was probably thinking, Why spend your own money when you can spend other people's money instead? You could ask the same question about many other Kickstarters though. Why does Richard Garriot, who is a multimillionaire, need $1 million in crowdfunding to make a new game?

Is it even possible to make a MMORPG with just $1.1 million dollars?

Projects that ask for a lot of money seems risky, but when they ask for too little money that makes me suspicious also.

But since that guy is a millionaire, the amount of money doesn't matter anyways...

AlKim: "a rough estimate would place the game in 100% completion in late 2014 if funding goals are met and i am able to hire some help."
If there's no other source of income, that's $15,000 for him to live on for about a year, minus however much he is going to pay the others. Call me a skeptic...

He also seems to have a fuck of a lot of stuff planned to complete in just one year, but then again I'm hardly an expert on the subject.
Ok, i'll call you a Skeptic.

Feel free to check out our Facebook http://facebook.com/stbc2 or Website http://stbc2.net for updates to see for yourself.

The funds are being raised to purchase a commercial license for Unity3D for 3 programmers ($1500 X3) plus the Team License which allows us to synchronize our work while we're working on the project (+$500 Each person, so another $1500), modelers charge between $50/mesh and $100/mesh, if we get a cheap modeler to make the 250 ships that comes out to $12,500, which makes us over-budget about $2,500, now if we include the prices for a year of webhosting + the rewards for the Kickstarter, that sets us at around $20,000, and that's not including the interior models.

All i'm trying to say here is don't judge me or my project before you take a look behind the curtains, please.

Please enjoy the image attached, it's an unreleased screenshot.

I guess Kickstarter campaigns also serve as advertising for a new game project, and get people to talk about it, so there's that.

A MMORPG? You bet, a damn good one even.

The next big "WOW-Killer"? Ehh... perhaps not.

I've given up on reporting scams to kickstarter, but Luci did actually manage to deliver #hilarity and implode two days before the end. There's a lot to read, but this is absolutely the bestest:

Scammer, after people point out his prototypes are clumsily shopped and his credentials are worse than worthless:
At this point, I have no choice but to file a harassment complaint with Kickstarter. Sorry people but this is getting out of hand.
Delusional backer:
The reason GXP has mentioned a harassment complaint is because he is hurting for not receiving understanding for his choices, and that is one way of expressing a need for some love and compassion. It is a popular defence mechanism in our society.
Love and compassion, guys. Love and compassion.
/me cries.

tomimt: A fan seeking money for a Bridge Commander fan sequal. This can only end in cease and desist letter.

monkeydelarge: They will be forced to make this Bridge Commander game take place in the Star Tracks universe, where the Borg are Norwegian and the Klingons are clingy cute Panda bears. :P
If this is true, I'll instaback!!!

If there's a promise of a DLC/sequel where you can also kick some Swedish subspacea$$, I'll double my pledge too.

Finnish whale hunters (wtf?!) as seen in STIV might be a stretch goal.

So you basically want people to pay for your hobby. There's free engines for that.

Well if you insist on perceiving it in that way then there is no changing your mind, however i do wish you to know that you are indeed wrong.
This one doesn't have even artworks and is asking 60k:
