Welcome to Battle of the Games: vote today and get 60% off tomorrow!

We have officially welcomed Summer (at least for the Northern Hemisphere ;-)) during the CDP RED Group Summer Conference just two weeks ago. And even though the temperatures outside haven’t quite reached their peak yet, GOG.com will be packing some serious heat for the next 17 days. We’ve already given away Worlds of Ultima 1 & 2 earlier today, but this Summer Promo is something much, much bigger.

For each day between June 19 and July 5, two games will battle one on one and you will decide which title wins. VOTE NOW! Each Round of the Battle begins at 1 PM GMT (9 AM EST) and ends after 24 hours. After each round, the winner of the popular vote will be discounted 60% and the runner-up 40%, for the following 24 hours. Bookmark the Battle of the Games page, check back every day, vote, and buy amazing games 60% off during our summer Battle of the Games!

Round 1: Myst: Masterpiece Edition vs The 7th Guest
The two best-selling PC adventure games in history. Period.

Back in the early 90’s trying to make a game that stood out in terms of graphics was an ordeal--the floppies could handle a few MB and the 3D renders or videos required a hundredfold more disk space. Only a madman would try to create a game for that new shiny rounded disk that required expensive hardware and was soon to become that-thing-that-didn’t-catch-up. However, Myst and The 7th Guest made a couple of million people buy a CD-ROM drive. How? Because those two games were, and still are, amazing. The epic adventure in the lost empire of the D’ni and the spine-chilling escape from the mansion of horrific riddles both took the hearts of gamers by storm.

Vote now for your favorite dreamlike (or nightmarish) adventure and buy the voting winner tomorrow 60% off, while you can pick up the runner-up 40% off. Be sure to tweet, share, Google+, or stand on the street corner and shout to the cars passing by to vote for your favorite pick.
The 7th Guest had a lot going for it, and it rightly deserves recognition for helping to pioneer the use of FMV and multimedia in games. But, in terms of design, gameplay and the richness of its universe, Myst gets my vote.

Oh yeah, I'm really digging this idea, though it kind of puts a wrench in my purchase plans. I was considering getting Disciples: Sacred Lands Gold this week, but it might end up getting into a Battle Royale with HoMM3 or Age of Wonders 2...

I don't know about this concept. I already own the most popular games on gog and won't purchase anything with less than a 50% discount. Does this mean i'm in for daily disappointment?
nice and interesting idea!
thanks

bazilisek: Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
True, but it seems like a "Vote your own GOG Gem Promo" thing, doesn't it? Thus the inverse popularity does make sense, assuming the games will be equivalent, and not something like Fallout vs Master of Orion 3 :P
Interesting concept, but also very vulnerable for abuse. Will there be still weekend and gem promos?

JMich: Interesting concept, let's see how it turns out

bazilisek: Let's see: people who own one of the games already will inevitably vote for the one they don't, turning this into a weird inverse popularity contest. And those who don't own either, well, how can they pick their favourite then? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. But hey, discounts. Discounts are always good.
I Own Myst in 2 Formats already, but I still voted for it, because my interest in 7th Guest is Nil and I want a GOG version of Myst. so... yeah.

Some might vote for a game they own on GOG already to show it love and hopefully get others interested in it and/or to buy it for their friends. As for those who don't own either, well they were on CD prior to this so a person might vote for their favorite to be able to buy it here on GOG cheap or allow others to buy it/buy it for others/etc.

Ubivis: This is the special announcement? I am a little bit disapointed :(

But voted for 7Guest, as I want this game damn cheap :)
It's many many days of discounts tho. ;)

Why not "VR Soccer '96" vs. "Master of Orion 3"?

This would be an interesting fight :)
Vote 7th Guest, it's $9.99.

Cause we've all been brainwashed by Euro? Still, VR Soccer '96 vs Sensible Soccer 2006 does seem awfully likely

If no one votes for either, does that mean we get both half off? Or neither at any discount? Either way I wonder if anyone would care. ;)
Myst: Masterpiece Edition

Nice idea, by the way!
Interesting concept. Voted for 7th Guest.
Very good idea. :)

And those that own both, will vote for the one with the least votes :D
