Juggalo669: Myst. Myst made me feel like my IQ dropped 100 points.
Meh. I wrote a walkthrough for that game. Of course, I never published it, didn't actually have internet at the time. Not that this slight problem was much detrimental to my learning of HTML, javascript and what little CSS existed.

As for the OP's question... I'd say a lot of the early first-person RPG's (the Might and Magic games here on GOG, for example), I'm pretty sure I played a couple similar games fifteen years ago, but now I'm dumbfounded about them and much more used to Baldur's Gate's point and click movement style.

Heh. Keep in mind that the topic title is "Anyone ever try a game that they were too stupid to play?" and not "Anyone ever try a game that is too complicated to understand". Subjectivity is given here, very much so. :)

...Or did I misunderstand your tone?

Maybe, like pretty much all the time, that's my "not so serious" tone. Also, in this case, "you were too stupid for it, I was bright enough to understand and write about it".

Also, aren't those much the same? If you're too stupid to understand the game, the game is too complicated for you to understand.

TheJoe: Might and Magic Book One

...and Two
Step one get some graphing paper, step 2 cast your location spell, step 3 realize that the location spell is actually a grid from 0-15 and not 1-16, step 4 draw a map for everywhere you go and meticulously note every bit of text the game gives you at any given location, also, try and walk through walls, they may be secret passages.

Also, you will need the manual, and now you know how to play Might and Magic Book One: Secret of the Inner Sanctum, any questions?

EDIT: I should probably add that you will have a good chance of dying early on, you will also have a good chance of dying later on, status effect spells are important in making sure that this does not happen and even if you do die your notes should help in determining where to go.

Ah, I see. :)

They're pretty much the same, with the distinction that one hands out Subjectivity Fliers all over the place while the other does not. The former indicates that debating is pointless because no one is making claims ("I couldn't play this game because I did not understand it" rather than "this game is impossible to understand"; the former is not debatable while the latter is very much so).

ur game sounds better but
reminded this
Yours looks highly exciting compared to what i was talking about.
It's called "expedition zur titanic" i never seen a english version of it,
maybe it was only for the german market, but it was quite demanding and technical.
There also is one called "hidden expedition - titanic" which is not the same, don't get fooled.
But you actually been able to dive down to the titanic in the game, i imagine it to be very exciting,
but never got there actually.
I my best guess is that it was supposed to be educational, it had Robert Ballard in it actually,
at least in the intro and apparently there was a chance to win a trip with him.
Not sure, i should get out the CD and see if i can rip the video.
Here is the cover shot:

Pulled it out of a magzine but i know it was available as a boxed version,
since i have it.
Would take some screens or a sample video, but it will not even run anymore. :<

FlintlockJazz: Some sort of Space Shuttle simulator game on my Atari ST, that took realism to a whole new height (you'd literally have to sit and wait for the space shuttle to be moved to the launch pad with no way to skip it, and it would only let you speed it up by so much). Could never land the bloody thing, for some reason I always blew up on re-entry into the atmosphere...

spindown: Ooh, I think you are talking about Shuttle: The Space Flight Simulator. I had totally forgotten about that one, but your post brought back some good memories. I bought the game when I was like 12 years old, and needless to say, it was way over my head. In fact, I wouldn't even call it a game as it was more like an insanely detailed recreation of the Space Shuttle's controls. I think they simulated every single knob and switch from the real cockpit, and the manual was as thick as a book. Shuttle was not exactly fun, but I found it immensely fascinating. With assists turned on, I was able to launch into space and deploy a satellite or something, but I, too, was never able to land safely and would always blow up on re-entry. I'm afraid we'll never see Shuttle here on GOG, but I would instabuy it if I had the chance.
Aye yes that's the game, couldn't remember the name right until you said it. I seem to recall that it had some sort of pull-out or spreadsheet that showed all the controls I think, and that there were tons of different views from the cockpit and outside. Since we both seemed to blow up on re-entry I do wonder if there was some bug there that stopped you from being able to land (this was before patching I think) or more likely we both failed to realise the same thing we were doing wrong. :D
I am too stupid to play Tecno: The Base.

Pretty good game, but the puzzles can be pretty obtuse, and I could never find any help on the internet. I kept going for a good while, but eventually, I got stuck hardcore and gave up.
Hahahaha
Great topic!

There are a bunch of games I have been too stupid to play, but the most recent one was Braid.
Sigh, I suck so bad.
Now, if it were more of a shooter game.....
:D

I played a similar game I think. I don't remember exactly what it was called, but I remember the Robert Ballard bit.

You had to outfit an expedition to go search for different wrecks and you had to trawl with sonar to pick up possible things on the sea floor, then you had to send down either more sonar or a sub and look at the thing to see if it was a rock or actually something cool. And then you would run out of funding/time and fail. I never finished that game.
No Heroes Allowed on the PSP does my head in... love the game, but i've got absolutely no where in it.
I generally find that you need someone to introduce you to, and run you through the basics of most complex games. Not unlike Dungeons & Dragons.
I've had help getting into Europa Universalis III, which made it much easier to play.
I grew up watching people play Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, which is probably the main reason I got into them. On the other hand I've never seen anyone play the two first Fallout games, which I think is the main reason I never got more than 20 minutes into a single playthrough... I find the gameplay confusing.
Just got hold of Rome:Total War off Steam cheap - I've Never played a Total War Game, I don't really play any Strategy games at all, and even before starting i get the feeling i'll be lost pretty soon.....

Mentalepsy: Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business. I love Silent Storm, so I got this one from some promotion or other here on GOG. The game handed me a few clips of ammo and some crappy guns with 20% accuracy and immediately sent me trekking through enemy territory. I really didn't feel like spending the time necessary to scrape a victory out of that situation, especially since I was already unfamiliar with the interface and the rules. I am not interested in Jagged Alliance anymore.
Uh.. JA2:UB is a stand-alone expansion, SUPPOSED to be close to impossible (it is to JA2 what American Revolt is to Syndicate).

I am aware that it is a standalone expansion. That really doesn't explain anything.
