tomimt: The most important reason why GOG games aren't in torrent sites is, that there's no need for them to be there. I'd say 99% of all the games GOG sells have been piratised ages ago, so there's a quite supply of Fallout or King's Bounty around. And people, who buy from GOG do so, because they want to do so and don't want to throw those games in torrents.

And pirates on the other hand, might have realized, that they've been moaning for huge game prices for ages, so they'd look even more dick heads, if they'd actually threw GOG games around.
On the other hand, many of those old games are hard to find now - or they run badly on modern systems. Nearly every game I bought on GOG, I own on CD as well but I bought them because, for starters, the installer makes it very easy, and because they fix compatibility issues.

I'm buying almost no DOS games anymore, though, because I already have them set up in DOSBOX Game Launcher & my personal DOSBox settings are better than the standard conf file GOG uses. But as long as GOG keep churning out Win 9X games that are patched to run well on modern systems, I'll keep buying those.

Trilarion: If nobody posts links or instructions on how to get GOGs illegal, than everything is fine. Just don't help potential pirates!
This, more or less. You guys want to talk about piracy as an abstract, that's fine. We're all friends here. Please don't go naming destinations or giving instructions, though, because that's what gets your posts modded by people like me.

Why not? Pirating a game is so easy. All you have to do is wait for GoG to release a promotion for the game of your choice, then click the little grey button with the yellowish dot and the $ sign on it. Honestly, how could you not describe GoG promos as a steal? *wink*
Honestly, as much as I would love to have friends play some GOG games, I don't dare give them away for fear they may end up on a random torrent site. I want to give Gabriel Knight 2 to my German teacher since she LOVES Munich, and thought the clips of the game were interesting and she wanted to play it. I would just give it to her but I'm afraid she would give it to everybody she knows and it would eventually wind up on a torrent site.

I might just gift it to her at the end of the term.

How would that be different though ? :p or is it because you'd be setting the example?

Trilarion: I am sure that every GOG game is available somewhere out there. However, since they are not so popular and it's so cheap to get them here... people will hopefully choose the right way.
That isn't always the case for some games, though. Freespace 2 comes to mind here, as I remember it being almost impossible to get it legally (or even illegally); the only copy that I could find out there was the cut down version hosted by HOTU. When I first saw it available here at the price they were charging for it, I was at first certain that it was a practical joke.

Don't you think that it's time that you put a more forceful legal jackboot up these pirate sites' arses though? Like you say, the presence of GOGs on these sites threatens the future of your business. So it's a matter of self defence as much as anything. Politeness is no form of self defence I've ever heard of.

Well, for one thing, I'm sure that potential new publishers come here to see what's going on, and I can only imagine what it would look like if there were links to torrent sites of games that are available here.

And for another, it's not exactly hard to find torrents or other sources of pretty much all the games they have here, providing the information just adds insult to injury.

It would be different because I would be purchasing the game specifically for her and sending it to her account, assuming that's how gifting works on GOG.

What she does after that point is out of my hands, but it doesn't come back to me.

Missing the joke? He's saying GOGs promos are a steal (and making fun of the fact that piracy and stealing often gets an equal-to mark between them).

You send the gift to an e-mail address, then the code can be registered to any single account. (Not that it actually matters in the context, but just adding information.)

Probably just misread the comment.

I found the BEST site for downloading GOG-games!

It is here: http://www.gog.com/en/catalogue

Not only do you get the games, but you get extras too! Often loads of them. It's awesome.

Red_Avatar: This is no surprise, really. I did a quick search on Google and I'm happy to see it's not as simple as some of you make it sound.
Don't Google filter their results to not help piracy or something? Typing gog on demonoid or the the pirate bay brings up a bunch of results.
