Lodium: Acording to Valve you dont own the games on steam, you are just renting them for lifetime.

Yea i know im nitpicking here since there are games you can backup from steam but
it woud certinly be interesting the day if steam went offline for good to see if they really coud keep their promise about
finding a way to give people their games or if they woud come up with another excuse.
I wouldn't be too happy about losing my rather small Steam library, but with any of the big hitters (Steam, Origin, uPlay, Apple, Google, Amazon) I'd really like to see at least one fail so everyone realises they don't really own their libraries. Maybe the ensuing shitstorm could be the catalyst for industry-wide change?! One can dream, I suppose :)
I see no reason to get an account since I own all the games on offer and I would never use Curse for any reason.

My primary was over 1k games. It turns out they don't need a reason to disable your account, just a bigger budget to fight you in court. When you run out of money then you lose by default.

Didn't Games for Windows Live go down the sewer?

WereCatf: Personally I don't feel Steam's DRM is all that bad. Valve doesn't mandate the use of Steamworks DRM on any product in their catalog, the decision is all up to the publishers themselves, and even if they did opt for Steamworks DRM it does allow me to play offline whenever I want to, they offer me plenty of actually terrific, useful features in return for buying games off of them and so on. Many of the games in my collection work even without Steam running if I launch them manually. The only thing is that you can't sell the games you've already bought, but then again, the same thing applies to GOG,too.

Of course I would like for all games to be without DRM whatsoever, but the way Valve does it is so far the best DRM'ed approach I've experienced.

You don't own the game period, no matter what service it's on (even here). You own the license, nothing more.

Someone needs to explain to me in what interest does Steam have to denying access to games that people bought. It would cost them millions of dollars, not just from customers, but from publishers who would sue them (for probably breach of contract).

Fallacy of equivocation.
Well let's hope this relationship will be more like a blessing than a curse :-)
No thank you.
With a mere 14 comments on the Curse news post about this "partnership", most of those by people complaining they couldn't find the offer available, and the GOG community just not interested in what Curse has to offer, this looks like a huge lose/lose situation indeed.
If you decide to download Curse.com make sure you get it from the main site. A trojan targeting WOW accounts is in the wild in an otherwise fully functional hacked curse client.

Here's what I think the community reaction is in a nutshell:

"It's a gift...and a curse."

If you guessed what that line is from, congratulations to you!
Got about halfway through this thread before giving up. I still don't really know what their service provides, though I have gathered it has nothing for me. Obviously it has something for other folks, or it wouldn't be racking up money.

If this nets GOG more business, then good for that, though the target demographics seem pretty wide between the two sites. I just hope this arrangement doesn't impose anything on GOG's side that will lessen their quality and service.

Time will tell, as it does in all things.

GFWL is a little different because it wasn't a platform to sell licenses. It's more akin to battle.net going down, although it forced itself on your single player games as well. WB Games was kind enough to remove it from the Batman franchise. Street Fighter IV and Bioshock 2 had it removed as well. Microsoft hasn't announced officially when GFWL will go offline, but speculation has it the service will go offline 1st July, 2014. Hopefully, this explains why other developers have been dragging their feet removing it from their games. Otherwise, we might see a mini-shitstorm, which could be interesting ;)
Edit: Nevermind :)

Not really true, you could buy games and things from GFWL, I have GTA 3 and 4 on my account.

Really? I didn't know that (obviously :D). Has Rockstar mentioned what's going to happen when the service shuts down?

I have no clue, they might have but I'm totally ignorant on it. xD
