Six weeks ago I logged on there to grab my "DRM FREE" installers of the X-Com classics, but they were nowhere to be found: no longer in my account.
In the past we have seen Gamersgate inexplicably replace DRM FREE installers with steam keys - though some swift work at least managed to get the guys from Viva Media to get things in line to get their installers back.
Obviously Im pretty annoyed, and while Ive no doubt got the games backed up somewhere, its not the point.
I contacted GG support and at first they had no record of me having the games on my account (a gift from somebody here many years ago in fact), then faced with the activation emails, they were "working hard to return the games to my account".
Two weeks passed and nothing.
A further email got me the reply along the lines of "this will take some time, but we will restore the games to your account". Okay I think, lets see what happens.
Another four weeks, still nothing, so I fired off another email once more.
Today I got this as a reply:
"Hi,
We apologize for wasting so much of your time.
It took us long to check all the possible options to restore your games but unfortunately we didn't manage to locate the gifts that were sent to you.
We deleted the installation files for X com series from our system several years ago since the games are now distributed with Steam keys.
So there are no other options to restore the games on your account unfortunately."
Firstly, several years is a complete lie - the games were there about a year ago. Secondly "no other options" - really? GG have been replacing DRM FREE with steam keys for years, but in this particular instance, they wont even offer that much? Of course they didnt have to delete the DRM FREE installers from their system, but they simply chose to. Thirdly, why are recieved gifts being deleted in the first place?
So what now? Might see if I can do what happened with Viva Media and track down a community manager or somebody to either get them reinstated, or be given a second option.
Either way, you are reminded.
UPDATE:
Seems the downloads were not unilaterally moved, as Gragar still has them on their own account - making this (and their excuses) ultra fishy.
