That GOG's more trustworthy isn't news of course and I don't know when it happened, but I just checked my Gamersgate library and found the download links to be missing for the DRM-free versions I bought of Rome Total War and System Shock 2.

A search revealed an answer in the 'Tutor' (GG doesn't have a proper forum AFAIK) for RTW:

http://www.gamersgate.com/gametutor?issue=252166

For SS2 I couldn't find no topic so I created one myself:

It's been a while.

Thanks!

I did remember there was a topic about it, that's why I went to check. Everything was okay in my library back then, but it's now I noticed Rome Total War and System Shock suffered the same gate, I mean fate.

I leave it to the community in what topic people want to continue discussing, if anybody wants to share their feelings of grief or PLANS FOR ACTION. Like, NOW, GG!
I went through this recently with Crusader Kings II.

You just have to save your own downloaded copies or installers. The latter is done, if it is still possible to do this for the game of choice, by running the downloader from Gamergate, going into system processes (Ctrl-Shift-Esc), and closing the process for their downloader. Then you can copy the files where ever you please as a backup.

The only problem with this approach is many games won't continue to get updates. But I consider that to be an acceptable loss. Note also that Paradox games are DRM-free in many, if not all, cases, even on Steam.

I bought RTW as a present to my brother some years ago. Recently he told me he lost his login details, and I was considering bothering GG about it, but....Steam key? Good riddance.
