GOG and Steam are competitors in the digital games distribution industry. What you're asking for is basically buying a product from Store A, then asking to get that product from its competitor Store B for free as well. That's not going to happen - Store B doesn't even have the right to make that decision! You would need to negotiate a deal with the company that created the product you're buying: in this case, the game publishers.

GOG has basically done what you're asking, but in reverse. They've negotiated deals with some of the game publishers so that if you buy the game on Steam, you can get it for free on GOG as well. (Yes, it's not what you wanted, but the idea is the same.)

You can buy games on both GOG and Steam too, you know? You don't have to restrict yourself to a single store. (Though some will disagree, I know it!) There's no rigid doctrine to supporting DRM-free gaming. Just do what you think is best for you as a consumer. =P

zeogold: As grateful as I am for you making this thread (heck, if you didn't, I would have), I have a sad feeling that nobody's going to read it.
I actually thought from the title, that this was a thread complaining about itnot working by a guy too addled by lolcats.

I should've known better, the spelling is too good.

Personally I'm still on the fence with this, trying to figure out the "Where's the catch?" part. I've got a sizeable Steam Library so I'd gain from this...but I can usually just play the games on Steam.

I've re-purchased several games on Gog to have a DRM free version, sure. But I'm trying to figure out what Gog's take is.

Oh darn, hmmm. Maybe the language barrier is part of the reason why we can't seem to really have a dialogue about this...

Good will too. I am so impressed with them right now, I don't even know how to express my respect and appreciation.
Anyone been 404 errors while trying to connect?

So close, I got token_expired :(

Well, he said "take", so I'm assuming he was talking about what's in it for them rather than what they're giving to others.

Agreed. I really like this. Very classy of GOG to offer this gesture.

Customers' good will is a boon to any business. And in this case the good will is well deserved. =)

Oh, customers' good will. My bad. I thought you meant the good will of the company.

Thank you, Alaric.us, for clarifying this situation. Upvoted, so that hopefully more people will see this thread. I did not understand why I could not connect, and was concerned this represented a more permanent problem.

As others have commented, I appreciate GOG's choice to offer this option. While I far prefer GOG over Steam, I have occasionally bought games on Steam that were unavailable elsewhere at the time. So GOG Connect effectively adds value to my previous purchases, allowing me to access games into which I have invested time and money in a more convenient format (GOG downloaders, etc.).

This further solidifies my appreciation of GOG, and the service they provide. At this rate, they will remain my primary and preferred purveyor of games for the foreseeable future.

I apologize if the wording of this post seems stilted. I have managed to grasp this 'enjoyment' of which you humans are so fond, but 'informality' is still beyond the capacity of my positronic cogitators.
