Ok so a bit of a rant- Gog has good sales from time to time. BUT limited AAA game choices compared to Steam. Why? Like games from Dishonored are not available even old AAA games.
*checks watch*

Yep, right on time.

Well, this is a bit of a change from the usual "There's no old games on GoG, hurr durr!".

Variety is the spice of life.

- games have to be DRM-free here; big publishers want DRM

- Biggest one I think: GOG sells far fewer copies of games than Steam/has a much smaller number of users compared to Steam, because "everyone" is already on Steam (and most PC gamers wants their games in one place)

- other reasons probably but I think the two above are the main ones.

This pretty much sums it up. Also, a great deal of publishers and developers look at us goglodytes as despicable pirates who will do nothing but spread their drm free game at the earliest chance we get. So yes, devs and publishers REALLY want DRM infested in their games.

GOG was growing steadily for a period, but some time after The Witcher 3, it started slowing down and as far as I can tell, actually losing customers in some cases. Its market share is pretty small, based on what little data us peons have.
I don't see why GOG should limit itself to mere AAA games anyway. I am already looking forward to AAAA games, they are the wave of the future. Luckily GOG has a few DD games though.
lol, DD games.

but honestly, what i don't get, why does Gamersgate have lots of games which GOG does not have, even DRM free ones. Still these are nowhere to be found on GOG.

And how do you find out which games are DRM free on Gamersgate?

edit: I just noticed that there's some small print about DRM on each game's page...
edit2: and there's a filter too.

Does it really though? I just had a look, first one that jumped up, Borderlands pre-sequel, though wow, its a soundtrack. In fact, most of what is on there as "DRM Free" appears to be soundtracks. So what are these good games available there, as I got to page 14 without seeing anything I would pay for.
because most publishers do not want to put their new AAA games on gOg (for many and various reasons)

I wonder what makes you think that? I mean if we go strictly by the numbers, I believe (and I could be wrong) that GOG's revenue has increased year over year with 2017 being significantly higher than 2016 which would indicate a steady growth.. GWENT has also been a huge success for them (making up a signifcant portion of GOG's revenue), which could create more casual GOG users.

With all things being equal, it is believed GOG get's around 10 - 15% of Steam sales on average... which isn't that bad. I expect that number will increase quite a bit when Cyberpunk 2077 releases (I think CDPR might even be crazy enough to make it GOG exclusive on PC), especially now that Galaxy is a lot more stable and feature complete than what it was when the Witcher 3 released. Plus they still got plenty of time to develop it even further.

ok, not triple A titles, some of them even quite trashy, but nevetheless some of those which i would like to be able to buy. especially point and click titles of the last like 15 years or so.
Many newer Triple A games are built with online connectivity and server call in's which can be seen as a form of DRM and the publishers do not want to remove this as they see it as part of the experience.

Gamersgate mostly sells Steam keys these days, which is why I've stopped using that store. I mean, if I want a Steam key, why wouldn't I buy it directly from Steam?

price? (depending on sales)

(also, when a developer sell a key directly, they get more monies)
