The most recent hint "In it's current form, it's very much un-Gog like." suggests that there are multiple versions of the game and while one of those versions may be on GOG, this screen shot was taken from a version that is not on GOG. However I also think that it is entirely meant to mislead.

If it's 'un-Gog like' and somewhat obscure, then there's very little chance I would have come across it.
Team Fortress 2, Valve owned and has cartoony graphic. Have you stuck the graphics in a low res and settings to help hide it? Cause that's a real cool idea you can make some over wise obvious games look unrecognisable doing that.

kalirion: A live service game then? Probably a mobile one, given the graphics?

Dark_Light748: All I will say is that it's a PC game.
I remember that game. Its called WARP.

It's needs an EA/ORIGIN-activation. I think that is the meaning of the un-Gog likeness. But its a complete single player game. If the necessary of EA/ORIGIN would be removed, it would be a good candidate for Gog.

Didn't even ring the slightest bell, so I knew I wouldn't ever get it, so I cheated. Turns out the game is on my Steam backlog, so technically if this riddle lasted long enough for me to get around to playing this game, I would've gotten it. Given the size of my backlog that would've been years, if not lifetimes, away.
Oaken?

(I have it in my GOG library, but haven't played it. I think I bought it cause my kids thought it looked cool)

I'm pretty sure that Oaken was a GOG site giveaway at one point.

Actually, yes I think it was on a giveaway last year. That might have been how I got it.

I'm pretty certain it's correct - that hex pattern with the plants/flowers is quite distinctive.

Indeed, Oaken is correct.
Ok, here's the next one. I'll show a cropped screenshot (without UI) to start with. We'll see if anyone gets it.

Okay. This looks like it is DOS era and older than pixelated dirt. but it doesn't look like Ultima, Wizardry, Might & Magic, Dungeon Master.

Is this The Magic Candle?
Oh wow, I found it! The Dark Heart of Uukrul

Searched google images for <"dos" "tile based" "party" "rpg"> and this was the 4th hit: https://www.facebook.com/groups/558977328068750/posts/1661751764457962/
