75-90% off Duke Nukem 1+2, Duke Nukem 3D, Balls of Steel, Manhattan Project.

The Duke. Men want to be him, women want to be with him. The manliest of men, the ultimate male role model. He's been kicking ass on GOG.com for years, but on December 31 2015, Duke has to step out to get more bubble gum. On that day, all Duke Nukem games on GOG.com will be removed from our catalog, but we are in talks with the new rightsholders to bring them back as swiftly as possible. That's why we bid you a farewell for now, Duke: with every Duke Nukem game at 90% off as a bundle, or -75% individually.

The Duke's humble beginnings lie with Duke Nukem 1 + 2, two explosively cool run-n-gun platformers where Duke kicks his very first alien ass, travels in time, and authors "Why I'm SO Great" - a retrospective and autobiography. All in the year 1997, a dystopian near-future.

Years later, on January 29, 1996, our time: Duke makes history. Total meltdown follows the release of Duke Nukem 3D in which we finally see the world through the man's eyes. It's a world of pornography, violence, and candid obscenity. Duke's world. And we are entranced. By the campy risque, and by the unadulterated joy of Duke's violent adventures and one-liners.

Then, for years Duke rides the hype-train: in 1997, we behold his Balls of Steel - a pinball game warmly welcomed for its smooth, realistic physics and plenty of Duke on the side. In the year 2002, Duke goes back to basics in Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project, a modern 3D sidescrolling platformer that's nothing if not a fun and mindless pleasure.

This is not where the Duke Nukem legacy ends, but it is where we part ways - for now. So Farewell, Duke! The sale will last until December 31, 10:59 AM GMT. The games will be removed from sale soon thereafter, but they will not disappear from your shelf if you're an owner.
Come get some.

Last chance to get Dragonsphere for free.
With the start of the new year, Dragonshpere will no longer be a free game on GOG.com due to new publisher agreements. If you haven't claimed a copy for yourself, make sure to do so by December 31, 22:59 PM GMT - afterwards the game will be regularly priced at $5.99.

If you haven't yet, you can also check out our catalog of gaming freebies, where you'll find classics like Beneath a Steel Sky, Biomenace, Ultima IV and ten more!

paladin181: You ask for far too many freebies.
avatar
fan3l: you are right. i will try to buy it.
What do you mean "try"? With the current discount, you can pick up all 4 games with the change in your pocket. Is there really a need to mooch?
Just saved one Duke for me. Thank you GOG for not only announcing this last chance but also making this a real steal for this price. :)
New rights holders, you say? You mean, Randy Pitchford? Is he anti-GOG? Wouldn't surprise me, he's turned out to be quite the ass overall.

klappis: Will the other 3DRealm games which doesn't contain Duke disappear?
avatar
Grargar: No, they won't be removed from here.
avatar
klappis: Would it be advisable to buy the 3DRealms Anthology now since it will be removed? If for example i buy it on Steam does the games get removed the 31:st of December?
avatar
Grargar: The 3D Realms Anthology on Steam contains games that aren't here yet, like the DOS version of Raptor: Call of the Shadows (which is considered better than the one GOG has). It will be removed from Steam on 31 December because, for whatever reason, the games in the bundle aren't sold separately for the most part. Whether it will return later in a Duke-less form, it remains to be seen.
That's strange! Why is Steam even selling the Duke games if they are going to remove them a few days later? They even have a sale on it now.

I'm not sure of your question. Can you elaborate?

1) Are you wondering whether the Duke Nukem games are a recent addition? They aren't. They've been there for quite a while.
2) Are you thinking that a game that has been removed from Steam is also removed from your library? It isn't. You'll still be able to install and play the Anthology's games even after their removal from the catalog.
Always sad to see games get pulled, especially one of the greats like Duke, but here's hoping for a swift return of these classics. Farewell for now, Duke, and may we be reunited in the near future.

Yeah, its always bubble gum or cigarettes, well never see him again. :P
avatar
TheMonkofDestiny: This news has apparently gone viral, thanks to a PCGamer article.

avatar
Zoidberg: Question, if we buy this now, where does the money go to?
avatar
TheMonkofDestiny: 3D Realms
3DRealms does not exist.

And as a Day1 Purchaser of ROTT2013, I really don't like those guys. They promised dedicated servers and until long time after release, these were BROKEN. Also, instances where the game's multiplayer DRM was not working.

Farewell Duke Nukem! We wait to see you on GOG again.

Oh, they exist. Maybe not in the form they once did, but they do indeed exist.

This must've taken some tremendous effort to get the necessary permissions to redistribute a lot of that material.

Just because I buy groceries at Penny doesn't mean Penny really exists. It's still just a sticker REWE made.

I can respect that you dislike them as they are now, but that doesn't amount to their non-existence.

Yes, they were purchased by another company. They were not dissolved after their aquisition. The statement you quoted goes on to say that Interceptor then appointed a new CEO for 3D Realms, who is still at the helm today.
Just because a company happens to be owned (in part or in full) by another company doesn't necessarily mean it is not still a distinct entity within that company.
