Telika: Yes.
OK, thanks. More waiting for me it is then.
So, the sequel to 10,000,000 is out

as it turns out; You Must Build A Boat

who wants the honor of adding it to the community wishlist?

or 10,000,000 for that matter....
Well i got past level 1,200 finally... funny i resumed and i noticed i had 33 hero souls, and in about a week i got a lot farther... Fun... Averaging 300 souls an hour now.

And i've aquired a google of gold... hmmm...

In the meantime. Finished "death squad". Went on the moon (just a slower and more boring version of adventure capitalist). Acquired an overmind (and next in line is overmind 2, so, no more discoveries in swarm sim?).

Still, i think swarm sim is still my favorite. Not sure why.

It would be better if there was animations or pixels showing the size of the hive, how many workers, then zoom out to the next level when you get like 1000x more so the swarms work as groups... Just having buttons and numbers increasing is a little too... i don't know... detached.
I still don't understand why people get addicted to these mindless clicking games... o.O

It's simple. They look at rising numbers. They want to see the numbers rising further. The numbers will never stop rising.
It's like all the gratification from grind heavy games without any input necessary.

It's hardly even a clicking game. It's closer to "progressquest". It gives an impression of progression (and meta-progression : progression of the acceleration of progression) at minimal involvement cost. With the little thrill of reaching that impossible-sounding threshold, and unlocking that new superpowerful thingy that allows to reach the even more impossible threshold. With sometimes an amusing flavor.

But basically, it's the fact of having it progress without even having to pay attention that is relaxing. You do other stuff in parallel, you sometimes forget it for days, but it's still playing in the background, and when you get back, lots of points to use.

Although this varies a lot. Some games (such as clicker heroes) require more and more presence and activity as you progress, others (such as idle evolution) allow for more and more idling as you progress.

It's all very dumb, that being said. Caresses a very primiive side of our brain. With an often self-aware, parodic tone (again, inherited from the "progressquest" mindset).

Telika: snip
You seem to know your progressquesting. :)
Thanks for the scientific explanation, doc.

I enjoy comparing these games and checking how many different ways this same (super basic) game mechanism can be declined. It's becoming a hidden-object comparable fad now ("ooh i will clone mine with my own flavor and it will be a great success"), with lots of derivative shit (like "death squad") and it's slowly shifting from joke-game to psychological-exploit. That's a nicely creepy phenomenon to behold, isn't it ?

Plus it's a gameplay that does allow a lot of time for overthinking. Unlike "Burrito bison" for instance ("Hmm, i wonder what compels me to play th- OOOH POGO STICK BONUS !!" *clikliclikicliklickliclik*)...
OMG 12 minutes to launch OMG!!!
