nightcraw1er.488: Move to Wales. Seriously though, is this now GoodOld GP.com?

Starmaker: Some people are poor and can't afford a doctor. Some people live in places where qualified doctors aren't available for whatever reason.
So they refer themselves to a games forum for medical advice? At least try a medical forum, its not about money or location, more the fact that your unlikely to find someone with training as a GP waiting on these forums in case of emergency.

The OP asked for tips, not expert medical or pharmaceutical advice. A sunburn is not a serious condition that requires a visit to the GP, but there are safe remedies to try that cost almost nothing. Plenty of tourists on beaches giving themselves sunburns deliberately in a desperate attempt to get some tan, and I don't see hospitals overflowing with them.

I get all my medical care (except tests and actual physical prescriptions) on a fairly small gaming forum (~10 users online on average) from a game designer I'm a fan of (who's also a doctor). Medical forums aren't just frequented by doctors generally, but specifically those "doctors" (with a varying level of credential trustworthiness) who give advice online for shits and giggles, which can have the Wikipedia evaporative cooling effect and push out sane people. Look at the WebMD forums, it's how is babby formed all the way down.

You've never seen My sunburn where the skin CRACKS OFF like a Crab's shell!

mcleodone: Yep best advice is to better dont get any sunburn first use sunblocker for astronauts if you can get ;-)

But if you have a sunburn best is not the costly pharma stuff which says "with aloe" but aloe itself!
Try to get some plants and cut two leaves and skin them. Use the inner jelly to rub this all over the burn best advice ever - gotten from an old Balinese.
Where can you buy such sunblock?

Crewdroog: get one of those gels or sprays that has lidocaine in it. it's a local anesthetic and will help a lot. Also, you can take Ibuprofen; it is an anti-inflammatory (unlike tylenol), so besides taking away some pain, it will reduce the swelling. Cool baths and compresses will help as well.
This, absolutely. The lidocaine+aloe gel is the best. Apply liberally. Buy zinc oxide cream for your face for the rest of band camp, especially for your nose. It is very thick but is the best blocker out there, and one of the safest.

Sunglasses, not with tiny hipster lenses, but large lenses that cover your eyes and a lot of the area around them. Your eyeballs and lips can also get sunburned. Protect them.

A hat---and if your band director wants to complain, go straight to the doctor and get a medical note. You've already gotten sunburnt and don't need extra exposure.
Thanks for all the tips, I'm recovering fast enough. It was overcast and rainy today so that was a relief. As for the people asking why I posted this on GOG and not talked to a doctor- charon121 was right, and I hope this wasn't too out of place. I just figured some of you might has some wisdom to share. :)
