I like Noxzema. Cooling when you put it on and otherwise just makes it feel better.
This will sound strange, but I came across this "treatment" for sunburn a few weeks ago. I was playing outside with my kids (the mrs always puts sunblock on the kids, but I was too manly, and stupid to apply it to myself) So anyway I wind up with my back completely burnt (but not broken that is important) So my wife tells me that if you put vinegar on a sunburn it will not only help heal the burn, but also bring out a tan from it. It was some sort of home remedy her family passed down for sun burns. Me being skeptical yet desperate I let her lather my back in vinegar (white vinegar) two nights in a row. The third day not only had the pain from the burn subsided, but my skin had a decent tan, and I have really white skin. Now I don't gurantee this odd remedy, but it worked for me, and if you are desperate like I was give it a go.

KiNgBrAdLeY7: Forget all the mumbo jumbo about cremes, yogurt, cucumber slices, etc. They will get your skin worse.
Depends on the severity of the burn.

For normal sunburn, quark works (even better than yogurt), I guarantee it. It not only reduces pain but also reduces inflammation, I've also used it for sports injuries several times. Not the low-fat type as that can dry out the skin further and the full-fat type could potentially irritate the burn so half-fat is ideal. Apply a non perfumed moisterizing cream afterwards but one that doesn't contain fat for aforementioned reasons.

Yogurt/quark is only a problem if the sunburn is very severe and there are open blisters on the skin, in that case do -not- use it as there could be an infection as a result (sort of common sense). If the sunburn isn't severe, quark and yogurt help quite a bit. Keep in mind that you don't keep that stuff on the skin forever, it's only for cooling for short periods of time.

get one of those gels or sprays that has lidocaine in it. it's a local anesthetic and will help a lot. Also, you can take Ibuprofen; it is an anti-inflammatory (unlike tylenol), so besides taking away some pain, it will reduce the swelling. Make sure to use regular lotion on that area too, besides suntan lotion. Cool baths and compresses will help as well.
Listen to CrewDroog.
Sun burns can be dangerous.
They work like actual burn depending on where you are.
You should go to a doctor and ask about some meds which they give to burn victims.
Also keep yourself hydrated even if you dont feel thirsty keep drinking water.
Try to avoid tea or coffee.
Keep a bottle filled with ORS solution and drink it after few intervals as it will keep your electrolytes up.
Also there is a term acute dehydration in which your body gets dehydrated so much that it dont get thirsty. So try to avoid it.
And dont ever forget sunscreen. There are few natural options too you can go with that.
I will personally attest to witch hazel. You can buy it in a large bottle for cheap. I used this for when I got really burned bad. Saturate a paper towel with it, and apply on skin. For the severe burns, saturate the paper towel and let it lay on the skin. This remedy seems to draw the heat out of the burn and moisturize the skin. After a couple days of application, my sunburn healed much faster and was less painful, though I still had a fair bit of peeling.

Then biggest thing you can do is prevent any further damage:

Find the highest SPF you can, but not above 50--anything higher is not advised.

Check out Environmental Working Group's guide to the best sunscreens as there are many lotions out there that don't provide the advertised protection. They also base the score on how toxic the lotions are depending on the ingredients which are possible carcinogens and/or chemicals that disrupt the hormone system.

You can also use the search bar to see how well any particular brand you have measures up.

advancedhero: I was just wondering if any one here has some other ancient family secrets or something for getting rid of, or healing faster, sunburn.
I sunburn very easily (especially when I was younger), and I have found over the years that the best thing to use on sunburned skin is ordinary moisturizer lotion (the cheap kind that usually comes in big containers), it works a lot better than aloe gel in my experience. Put a very generously amount on the burned area every hour or so.
test..... also aloe vera

Vinegar as mentioned above.

I suggest putting it in a spray bottle and spraying it on. Any pain froim sunburn dissappears the instant it hits your skin. Spray and reapply as needed to alleviate pain.
Make a paste of Bi-Carbonate of soda and get someone to paint it on you avoid things like Banana Boat it will totally fry the hell out of your skin! I should know I've had Bastard sunburns before one time I fell asleep in the summer sun for five hours woke up and I was COATED in blisters had to go to hospital all I felt was my skin was Tight with a Ring of Heat around me I kept popping thermometers electric ones read out ERR and shut off completely so they took me to the burns ward and Hooked me up to this little silver box and popped blisters and put these little pads on me to measure my temperature my bodies temperature was 717 degrees Celsius the Doc that put the pads on me Passed the hell out and the other doctor's Yelled out "HOW THE F**KING HELL ARE YOU THAT TEMPERATURE AND NOT DEAD!!!" The put hot water in a Metal bath and ordered me to get in it the water Bubbled like a spa the bath was a NORMAL METAL BATH I put my leg in and it made Buzzing noises and the water evaporated very quickly it looked as if the bath was a spa but it wasn't you should have seen it!

One home remedy you can try is plain yoghurt. It supposedly helps the skin heal, plus it can be very soothing if it's taken straight from the fridge. In my country there's an ointment brand on the market, based on ricinus oil and beeswax; people claim it's great for burns of all kinds.

Starmaker: If you feel the need to look like an idiot for whatever reason, buy bronzing solution in a makeup store.
advancedhero went offline shortly after your reply. When I saw this I jumped into my private jet to get to him ASAP, but... It was too late already... See what you did to advancedhero oO
