CymTyr: Hell, GOG, selling your left testicle to re-release Diablo 1 would have earned you more in a month than the past year of GWENT sales, most likely.

kbnrylaec: I hate DRM and microtransactions, but I doubt re-release Diablo will earn more than microtransactions in a popular F2P game.
That is why we have so many garbage F2P games in the market.
It was an admittedly poor joke. I just secretly (not so secretly) resent GWENT because it really divided the GOG community.
They should have stuck to their stance that it was going to be a gog exclusive , they walked back asap again like the pr apologies before, yes the game would have sold less but it at least it would be a gog exclusive to show off.

Well, they probably prefer being richer to being show offer.

If you have the biggest market share like Steam, exclusives are a good thing for you. If you are a small competitor like GOG with a game like Thronebreaker that is not very popular, having it only on your little shop is probably akin to not having it produced at all. I don't want to speak bad about GOG and CDP but that is just the reality and I can really understand them bringing their games also to Steam.
Steam is still full of lots of self entitled "no steam, no buy crowd". Plus GOG's marketing was piss-poor on Thronebreaker, many people never even knew the game was released.
I think some of it is just the type of game it is, but the marketing didn't help.
It's a crossover game that is only going to appeal to a niche audience.
So unless you are a diehard fan of Witcher in general or both really enjoy the story part of RPGs with card battles (which is what it sounds like), it's probably not for everyone.

There was one of the Warhammer games which tried the same thing. Collectable cards for a tactical battle game. The random cards determined what you could do in the way of movement and attacks. And you couls upgrade them and build your deck.
To be honest, I was pestered with the huge ad on the front page just like everyone else, but I never really felt like reading up on what kind of game it is. I just assumed it's connected to the Witcher series (which I haven't really been able to get into so far) and to that card game in the Witcher series which I never played, so I just assumed it's probably not meant for me. Besides, it looks expensive, and when I tested the Witcher board game beta, I thought it had very dull mechanics, so I'm not all that confident that the card game would be exciting. I didn't even know about any exclusive content or that Thronebreaker was a GOG exclusive for a while (both of which I consider anti-consumer practices, even in the cases where I'd profit from them due to my personal preferences).

*snip*
If it had to go through the same curator process as every other game on gog I wonder if they would've rejected it for being too niche. LOL
I'd have bought it, if I weren't broke. I'd buy it right now at 50%. As someone who'd like to get into Gwent but finds it too daunting, it sounds like a good intro. I have like 26k scraps on Gwent and no idea how to spend it or what to do other than play the starter decks.

Probably. Also, the game was named wrongly. They should have called it community-breaker instead of Thronebreaker! ;-)

This time, I agree with you...
Wanted to make sure it wasn't one of the ones here already. It's not, it's the Warhammer Space Wolf game. It didn't seem bad, just a strange combination.
I would have bought it if it had been an isometric RPG set in the old west, or a fps inspired by eight-legged freaks.
A month later is Thronebreaker still a flop? Its on page 1 of the all time best selling GOG games right between Ultima 7 Complete and Caesar 3. Not to mention whatever Steam sales there are. I was surprised by this but it seems pretty successful to me.

It's a hit and it was always going to be a hit.
