The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's Next-Gen Update is up and running, allowing every previous owner of the game to enjoy it’s plethora of enhancements, like amazing graphical improvements, community-made mods, cross-progression, additional content within the game, gameplay and quality of life changes, and much more, for free!

And although there’s so much stuff to do in our favorite, dark fantasy world, we catch ourselves way too often just marveling at the beauty of the next-gen updated Continent! And it’s hard not to: ray traced global illumination and ambient occlusion, “ULTRA+” graphical settings on PC, upscaled texture to 4K for various characters, and incredible environmental improvements are really doing wonders!

And here's a little comparison to prove it!

We mean… just look at those details! And how about you, did you take some awesome screenshots while playing after the update? If yes, please, feel free to share it with us in the comments.

And if you’d like to do so, but don’t own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition yet, now is the best time to grab it, as it is on a -80% discount during our Winter Sale (until January 2nd, 11 PM UTC). Alongside other CDPR’s gaming gems like Cyberpunk 2077 (-50%), GWENT: Rogue Mage - Deluxe Edition (-30%), or Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales (-70%).

We hope you enjoy the holiday season everyone, have a good one!

GOG.com: And here’s a little comparison to prove it:

Before Next-Gen Update

After Next-Gen Update

Before Next-Gen Update

After Next-Gen Update

Before Next-Gen Update

After Next-Gen Update

This is actually very funny. :''D
So next gen just makes everything more blury and shadowy? xD

I mean, it's nice and all but it's another day in the Winter sale and this is the only banner I see?

Keep the releases coming! Must stay satiated and satisfied!
To tell the truth I am a little conflicted on the Before Next-Gen Update and After Next-Gen Update text comparisons. Cannot wait until the general consensus on this!
The most noticeable to me is better looking foliage and some of the higher res textures. Them new rocks are sexy. ;)

I went to a school once, that every year celebrated a school victory that it has from over 70 years in it's past.

Keep in mind that were it to compete with that same school today, it would be an absolutely unmitigated slaughter.

I would like to say that such a sad overfocus on past glories was made up, but this was an actual thing. The score from a 70 year old game was permanently etched into some of the school property and held up as this amazing moment in history for all to see.

GoGs focus on the Witcher 3 is kind of like that.

I mean, I get the whole point of this website is to celebrate Good Old Games.
And the Witcher 3 is in that category.
Maybe I am missing something but I don't think I have run into anyone in the retro gaming community going:

"Boy, I wish there was a remaster of the classic Witcher 3".

I mean, it's kind of like Oreo Cookies. Witcher 3 was great. It did what it needed to do when it needed to do it. Does it need to be updated?

And is it time to look forward to what comes next?

Why everybody insists in using the term next-gen? It's either current-gen or still not available.

I thought something similar with the original version of The Witcher 3 especially since it is not that hard to get the first two to look nice and clean.

I was going to comment about how "Hey, it finally looks more like that trailer we were told was actual in game graphics the first time" but honestly it's worse than I thought when I mistook the first screenshot for the next gen version at first. The only one I can even recognize as looking better is the Blood and Wine screenshot, and that's largely due to a wider palette of colors.

Least it's not as bad as Sony and Naughty Dog with The Last of Us Part 1.

Meh, I'll just stick to the The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project:
https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1021
Game looks fantastic for me but the fire animation (is it animation?) and waterfall animation are all weird.
Looks great indeed. Would be even better if it works great also :)
So, the quality of graphics is significantly decreased. The picture has lost details, become unfocused and blurred, less realistic. It is now tiresome for the eyes. And these problems exist on all three screenshots, compared.
