The most haunted night of the year draws near, and we’re getting ready for it at GOG. Beware – you’re in for some scary fun! We’re taking you on a weird adventure full of creepy creatures lurking in the dark, but don’t worry, as we’re also treating you to more than 1200 deals, new releases, and recommendations from the team!

First, let’s take a look at the new releases on GOG:

GrizzledLone: Edit: for clarification: The German laws you're talking about only take effect within German borders. If we had simple (wink wink nudge nudge) ways of shopping outside of Germany we wouldn't need those verifications.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: If you are within Germany's borders at the time when you buy a game, then those laws are applicable to your purchase of that game.

The suggestion in that quoted statement, for GOG to facilitate a way for its German customers to break Germany's law, doing that would be a very horrible move on GOG's part, and open them up to all sorts of terrible liability.

But I'm sure the bosses at GOG know that already, and hence would never do something that foolish.
That is simply not true. Only the distribution is governed.
"It is illegal to sell or make any indexed games available to minors in Germany and it is illegal to advertise for them in any form, including putting them on store shelves or publishing reviews in gaming magazines. [...] There is, however, absolutely no law forbidding any adult to buy an indexed game listed on the so-called List A or List E (majority of entries)."
You can also buy those games in Germany but "only via request".

Edit2: About the "bold" part: That part does assume that you're selling your product in Germany; it doesn't matter where your customers are located.

That's why Austrian online shops can sell all games on the German index (excluding List B) to their German customers. That's how I bought all my physical copies... back when those were still a thing.

Edit: I forgot the part about USK/FSK (games/films). So let me add that one as well: "German traders are obliged to observe the age classification at the time of sale." Did you know that Austrians are actually not German? I guess Austrians know that.

That unequal treatment means I will change my purchasing for that game from a Definite Buy to a Never Buy.

I want to buy some games, but for some reason there are no Discounts for Bethesda games!!!
There are rumors that skirym will be released in gog very soon. I imagine they are waiting for that moment.

Skyrim rumors exist from 2015...Don't expect it to release soon because the anniversary edition (that will break all mods) will be released november 11....Probably next big release on gog will be mafia definitive edition on winter sale (just a hunch)

Nice to see the Just Cause series finally show up here. It's one of 5-6 things in my "I got it from Steam back in the day and would really like a no-DRM version" box.

I don't think we should accept the 2nd class citizenship when it comes to important patches that fix significant bugs, but I'm generally fine with no achievements, cut multiplayer (on older games), and similar.

Really excited to see Just Cause 1 and 2 here.
But can someone confirm that these are completely DRM-Free. I am a bit suspicious nowadays after the Hitman debacle.

There are plenty of things to criticize GOG for, but I don't blame them for this. Age verification (beyond asking "are you 18+?" and accepting "yes" as the answer) is an invasion of privacy by design and a complete waste of time.

Teens in Germany could simply find a website that's hosted outside Germany for their filthy needs. The German government couldn't possibly block all sites with adult content. Or use a VPN. Or they could pirate whatever they want, or buy/sell DVDs in the schoolyard or cafeteria. Maybe they sell microSD cards these days, I dunno.

I played violent video games like Wolfenstein 3D (MEIN LEBEN!), watched violent movies like Die Hard (Yippee-ki-yay, MF) and watched porn well before I was 18. And I'd like to think I'm not an abusive misogynist nazi.

For JC1, there was a DRM-free disc release at some point so they probably just used that. JC2 had some Steam dependencies which must have been removed for release here so it's probably fine, but I wouldn't blame you for wanting to wait for confirmation.

Just Cause 2 is the best game in the series. It even has a very decent driving model which was a big problem in all of the other games from the franchise. I'd certainly recommend it. :) Just Cause 1 is a little outdated in comparison to the sequel, but it's still a quite good game. For this price it's definitely worth checking.

Just Cause 1 compared with the sequel is a bit outdated, indeed. But not bad at all. The same direct an crazy destruction and a massive island to explore. All is less polished in physics and graphics. But very fun.

Probably eventually I will need to puchase Just Cause 2 complete, the price is pretty good. I already had the game in Steam, but when I took a look yesteray at it I discovered that the game dissapeared from my library without a trace. It is not present even in my purchase historial. Steam is amazing indeed.

If they were not DRM-free I can guarantee that the community would have burned this thread down in the first minute of it's release. I'm playing Just Cause 1 right now and everything is DRM-free.
