JudasIscariot: Type in terminal: winecfg

In the Applications tab, add the game's executable so that you set the virtual desktop for just the game.

Go to the Graphics tab and check the box labelled "Emulate a virtual desktop" and enter your desired resolution.

Then save the configuration :)

edit: This may be one of those games where the menu is in a fixed resolution but the game itself should be whatever resolution you set it to but I am not 100% certain of this.
Well, the game is playable but whenever you return to desktop or a new mission loads you have to quit the game and load it again since something breaks the graphic configuration and the mouse cursor goes haywire (aka several feet away where you click) + graphics get blurry. Cause of the mouse you can't really play then. Otherwise the game works fine.

I haven't experienced the mission loading issue or the mouse cursor issue. You're playing the game on a clean prefix, I presume?

Are you starting the game via terminal? Perhaps there's some terminal output that can be of use for Bugzilla :)

Yes, im playing the game on a clean prefix. Had the same issue in stock wine version for Linux Mint before. Starting it graphically.

Start it via terminal "wine HeroesOfAE.exe" and you should see a lot of output in the terminal. That output might be useful in case you decide to file a bug report in Bugzilla about it :)

In my terminal I see a lot of

fixme:d3d:wined3d_check_device_format_conversion wined3d 0x1ffaf0, adapter_idx 0, device_type WINED3D_DEVICE_TYPE_REF, src_format WINED3DFMT_B8G8R8X8_UNORM, dst_format WINED3DFMT_B5G6R5_UNORM stub!

but I have a slightly older version of Wine so your output may vary :)
See this post: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/the_judas_does_this_run_in_wine_thread/post63 on a quick and easy way to run Darkest Dungeon in Wine.

JudasIscariot: In case anyone is interested, Darkest Dungeon does NOT work in Wine as it suffers from this bug.
That's odd. Other test results and a quick googling suggest that it should be playable.

How old are those test results?

Several months, up to a year or so old. Not old enough to me to discard them.

And how many versions of Wine come out in a year?

could be newer Wine causes it not to run. I'm still trying to get Ford Racing 3 to run on my rig, so far no luck, but am told tu use an older wine, as other people has reported it working

I'm sorry guys, but being bad and stubborn person I had to try this.

Wine 1.8-rc2 (so it's the same as in linked test results) with directx9 (probably unnecessary) and vcrun2013 in Windows XP mode. I'm able to start the game, create and start new campaign. Didn't play at all it so can't tell if there wont be any troubles later on.

Don't have the game so I can't test it. But I've seen stuff break from one Wine to the next
Remember that odd numbered versions of WINE (1.7, 1.9, etc.) are development versions.
Compatibility can (and will) be broken at times if you use them.

the bug report states that it occured when using the default Windows 7 mode. Maybe that's the difference why it works for you?
i would also recommend to not use any winetricks unless they are really necessary (like directx9 here). It just makes bug hunting a lot harder.

My PoL uses Win XP as default. It hardly ever fails and changing to Win 7 ends in errors and crashes most of the time.
