I found this 6 years old video that I think clearly explain the vision behind SKG
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUAX0gnZ3Nw

I 100% agree with it (basically I was saying the same stuff even before that video come out).
We are almost at 1.4m goal, the campaign end this month so I think we will go over that but not by a lot... I hope at least 1m signature are valid so that this will actually get a chance in the EU.
I don't know if Ross claims to be punk, but if he does and at the same time he's happy to keep lapping corporate dog food, that makes him an imposter at best, and a mundane at worst.

What's more punk that eschewing corporations and making something that you own in full, with the support of the public? The social ideal, even; to share and enjoy with all, with the help of everyone?
1.4M signed, hope this does some good.

Here's a new video. I didn't watch it though because 19 minutes of him going on about this when I've already said my peace (I think the idea is noble, but misapplied) would be about as interesting as being told the scores for the English Cricket League's current season.

Go nuts. (Gosh, these video's comments are insipid.)

for those who think Ross is pro drm...
he is not.
I really think we as a community that value consumer rights should support SKG.
the epic games distanced themselves from Video games Europe, when CD Project will do this? I'm really worried about this.

Maybe they did distanced and I've missed the news? Anyone have more news about it?

Regarding baseless accusations against Ross, we stand with Ross, game industry you will not win! You should really think twice before picking a war with your customers, you will lose is a guarantee

SCAwJos: And they (CD Projekt RED and Larian) don't need to officially position themselves, as I see it.
Actions speak louder than words, and the simple fact that all of CD Projekt RED's and Larian's games are available on GOG, (99,99%) DRM-free, on day-1 and yours to own via offline installers unmistakably shows where they stand.
As do Swen Vincke's last couple speeches, now that I think about it, so there's also (indirect) verbal positioning on the customer's side there.
I just want retro games that have not been on the market for decades be allowed to be officially preserved by either first or third party organizations (many of which are Japanese games that have been gone for a very long time).

That way it gets rid of the stigma of the high seas so to speak.

GoG has saved many games, but it cannot save them all and this need to be solved eventually else the situation will keep continuing for decades more.

I'm starting to realize how utterly controlling and short-sighted our societies are; once its gone its gone if our fading memory causes those games to disappear forever.

I don't think they are member.

But they should support SKG and they did not.

He may not be pro-DRM, but the stipulations in the FAQ are DRM agnostic at best.

That's just because the SKG is just trying to prevent games for being completely destroyed.
That's the issue they are focusing on with SKG, not the DRM.
However, if this initiative passes, it will set a precedent for launching others, including restrictive DRM regulations for companies.
One step at a time. For now, I'm happy if things improve and at least this initiative passes.
It will prevent many games from disappear from history. That will already be a good thing.

they are an indirect member trough because of the affiliation with Video Games Poland

are we talking punkrock and punk ethos now? IMO and according to rock history ,the punk rock philosophy and its most famous performers were all deeply ironical, and almost all sucked up to corpos. that or they were already rich kids who depended on their rich corpo-working parents to survive, sometimes even after they made it big and can live on the profits from rock music and merch.

worst/best example: Johnny Rotten of S$x Pistols. i love him, but he's very much an establishment guy, who's also a big royalist. i mean he literally performed for the royal family many many times. his band probably never would have existed without EMI and other suits who worked in the mainstream music industri.

punk in general is very un-"punk" and bunch of shills for their biggest donors and sponsors. sometimes they also pretend to be marxist while sucking up all that delicious money from their very capitalist gigs and side-biz.

but you don't want the japanese wincest eroge games to be saved? you don't want the iconic and classic Rance games to be saved?
you sure sound extremely upset over wincest games in the other topic.

though to be "fair" , most of the "classic" eroge are still being sold in japan. sometimes at their original retail prices. those devs/publishers never want to drop their prices for eroges.

Seeing all these companies get mad at the movement and act like little children that they'll have to do something for the customer makes me feel like we're moving in the right direction. Also, the fact that Ubisoft updated their policy to add "destroying all copies in your possession" once they deem they are done supporting a game just shows they are very salty about the whole ordeal.
We’re at the stage where companies just make up shit against the movement. How long until they try to create some allegations against Ross? I wouldn’t put it past these companies worried about their billions in profits.
