However, it seems like all RPG Maker games run fine without Steam. Are there any known examples that don't?

Minioka: Just tried Mars: War Logs and it's trying to run steam whenever I launch the executable. I guess it should be removed from the list?
Did you renamed steam.exe to something else?

If the executable can find steam.exe it loads Steam automaticilly. So rename it first :-)

You can find steam.exe here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam

Sometime it's also enough to rename steam_api.dll in the game folder (don't know if this is the case for this game too, though). Also I'd like to add that the steam directory does not have to be the one Jonathan_The_Gamer posted - this is however the default Steam directory that valid if you did not specify a different folder during the steam installation.

Didn't know that. Gonna try it! :-)

Bundle Stars got some nice Genesis/Mega Drive games cheap.

Just launch SegaGenesisClassics.exe and you can those what to play.

Tried both of these, still won't launch without opening steam.
Did some testing with another couple games. Action Henk works like a dream without any special changes.
Okay, we're updated again. Are we saying definitively that Mars: War Logs should be removed? It's absolutely possible that an updated tied it to the client when it worked fine without it before.

As for the RPG Maker games, literally all of them work? XP, MV, VX, VX Ace, 2000, and 2003 all work without Steam or any extra DRM?

I couldn't get Mars War Logs to work no matter what I did. Might be specific to me so it could be worth seeing if anyone else is having issues. Also, I spoke too soon for RPG maker games, my bad. I found a few didn't work. However, I've been trying a bunch of games and two games called Science Girls and Trick & Treat work fine.

If anyone gets the chance, could they test I Am Setsuna and the 3 Final Fantasy XIII games? Square seems to go back and forth on DRM.

Lightning Returns does not work without Steam in my experience. Hopefully someone else can bring good news on parts 1 and 2.

There is still one thing you could try though (with Mars War I mean) because it helped me with several games in the past. Look in the game directory (where the executable of the game can be found) if there is a file called "steam_appid.txt". If there already is you're out of luck. But if there is not create one textfile with this name (using notepad or whatever) with only the number 232750 in it. Sometimes(!) it prevents steam from being loaded and starts the game.

No dice. Tried making a txt file exactly as you said and it didn't change anything, the game tries launching steam with the .txt, without the .api, etc etc. Thanks anyway though.

Then they have probably implemented the steam launcher directly into the executable file after some update. If that is the case you probably really are out of luck.

This article claims Rime is DRM-free? Not sure if they just mean Denuvo is removed or if it can run without Steam. It'd be much appreciated if anyone is able to check.

After reading this article I have not the slightest wish to support the devs. Hardcore believing in DRM is something ... no, I just won't support. Sorry.

Edit: Which also means I cannot check it. Maybe somebody else can.

Can somebody try HITMAN now that Denuvo is gone from it?
