And these are games that are already in the Wiki, and I can confirm their Linux versions work out of the box:

· Aeon Command
· AI War: Fleet Command (now available for Linux, and doesn't need any activation key)
· Mimpi Dreams
· Shadowgate (2014)
· The Detail Season One
· Until I Have You
Next up, Windows games I got running with Wine set up as Windows 7:

· Belladonna
· Blitzkrieg Anthology (the main game and the 2 expansions)
· Eets (delisted from Steam) (you need to copy a Steam.dll library to the game directory. If you do that, it is recognized as an evaluation copy instead of the full game, though)
· Fortified! (only tried the Solo mode)
· Freedom Fall (you need to delete the steam_api.dll file)
· Good Robot
· Infectonator: Survivors
· KRUNCH (it doesn't save your progress)
· Legend of Fae
· Leisure Suit Larry - Magna Cum Laude Uncut and Uncensored (it is the exact same GOG build, with its webcache.zip and goggame-* files and everything :P)
· McPixel (execute McPixel.exe, and not McLauncher.exe)
· Oknytt
· Replica
· Rusty Lake: Roots
· The Long Journey Home
· Think of the Children
· Tick Tock Isle
· Wick
· Zenith

And finally, a bit of a pick & mix:

Games not listed as supporting Linux on Steam that nonetheless have a Linux depot with a working build

· Dark Train (Linux depot)

· Scanner Sombre (Linux depot)

· The Charnel House Trilogy (Linux depot, though that build is a bit bugged) (Alternatively, the Windows build works flawlessly on Linux using the native AGS engine build, plus the AGS Steam stub plugin)

· The Swindle (it's got both an official as well as a beta Linux depot. The build on the official depot suffers from a bug that prevents the player character from moving, but the beta one works just fine and it's almost on par with the official build: v1.06 vs 1.061)

· Toren (Linux depot)

Games not supporting Linux on Steam that I got running natively on Linux

· Between Me and The Night: Worked out of the box on Linux by using a native Unity runtime (v4.6.4f1) and some Steam plugin libraries. It also worked out of the box with Wine set up as Windows 7.

· Leisure Suit Larry 7 - Love for Sail!: Worked out of the box with ScummVM v2.0.

Windows games that are offered on Linux as a "Wine-bottle"

· Battle vs Chess

· Enclave (now "available" for macOS and Linux)

· Knights and Merchants

Finally, the 4 games in The Apogee Throwback Pack worked on Linux "out of the DOSBox" :P. The two Blake Stones are already included in the Wiki (in the DOSBox table), while the original Rise of the Triad is listed in the 'regular' table, without mentioning DOSBox. The pack also includes Extreme Rise of the Triad, that also works OK with DOSBox, but isn't listed in the Wiki.

Hey guys!

With Steam having announced dropping support for Windows XP and Vista, I am starting looking into workarounds.

I do my tests by downloading, and running the game on a Windows 10 machine, then copying the game folder onto other machines.

So far I can confirm Half-Life 2 working, you need to create shortcuts with command line options, to launch the Episodes or Lost Coast. GTA San Andreas works, so does Portal. Doom 3 works after replacing the executable with the one from the latest patch.

But two games that I've seen listed on various lists, they didn't work for me: Serious Sam 2 and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. I tried both games on a separate XP machine, as well as a Windows 10 PC.

Serous Sam 2 error message: The application has malfunctioned and will now close. We apologize for any inconvenience. A minidump has been generated, please send this to the developer.

Chaos Theory: Application Load Error: 2:0000065558
I got Goliath (which incidentally is part of this Indiegala bundle) working out of the box with Wine, so it looks like it's DRM-free. :)

Chaos Theory - only the multiplayer works. Single player requires Steam. I bought and tested Chaos Theory last year and unfortunately, that's the way it is. I have no idea about Serious Sam and how that's supposed to work but do look in the notes on the entry on the list. Sometimes, they do have details, unless you already looked into that and followed them.

In the case you did followed the notes, there might have been a patch that may have made the game reliant upon Steam.
Like I said two years ago, Serious Sam 2 will no longer work without the Steam client post-Steamworks update.
Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online - Game runs fine without the Steam client. You only need to remove the Steamworks folder (which contains the steam_api64.dll) located in Engine\Binaries\ThirdParty.

SG/ZH: School Girl/Zombie Hunter - Same as above. Remove the Steamworks folder located in Engine\Binaries\ThirdParty

PS: both games run on UE4 and were developed by Tamsoft.

UPDATE: After the new Barista Update, the game seems to be using Steam's CEG and thus it no longer works without the client.

Makes one wonder about the inherent volatility of this list...

Just out of curiosity. I guess you checked this on Linux?

Did you also figure out how to set it to different languages this way?

And you just confessed to not only having bough the game but doing this twice - guilty! ;)

Your guess is correct. I didn't check the Windows build, but I could if someone's interested.

Ooooops... 「(⌒_⌒;)
Three more Linux games that worked out of the box without the client:

· Among the Sleep - Enhanced Edition

· Face It

· Prison Run and Gun

Go get them now if you're interested. Tomorrow they could be DRMed! :\

Since we are talking about a game that does not seem to work anymore without Steam now it would be great to see if there's still an alternative at least for windows users.

No dice. I'm getting the same output error messages about SteamCEG and the Steam API not running with the Windows build as well.

So right now, regarding alternatives: here's one, and here's another one. :)
