Voted. Great racer, played it on Dreamcast. Should give it another go really.

tinyE: XD If you think you can find a reliable fix for Racer be my guest. :P

It is hands down the greatest racing game ever and I have searched to the ends of the Earth for a solution. Perhaps you can find something beyond the ends of the Earth.

IronArcturus: I've only played the N64 version, but I've always wanted to try the PC version. I've read a lot of good things about it! Plus the wishlist has over 4,800 votes, so hopefully GOG will tell LucasArts/Disney to hurry up with the game! :P
I've played both, but the PC version is far superior. Better graphics, sound, and customization. Plus, a gamepad/keyboard combo gives you a great combination of pod control during the racing scenes and customization options during the menu bits.

And yes, I would love for this game to come to GOG. I keep checking, but nothing so far.

I might be wrong but I heard, just heard, that only the PC offers a flame thrower on Sebulba's pod, but again, i might be off there. It doesn't really matter; I think in all the hours I poured into this game he only ever nailed me with it once.

snowkatt: you know this from experience ?
avatar
tinyE: Unfortunately YES.

I have the disc and have tried over and over and over and over. I have attempted every fan made patch and LA recommend there is, plus a few of my own.

It seems one in fifty owners of the game can strike gold but for the rest of us it's a lost cause.
Hmmm... Recommending Boch emulator, virtual machines or DosBox is probably not going to be of any help...

megarock58: You could play the N64 on an emulator.
Probably the best bet...

Green_Hilltop: Solution 4: Use VirtualBox with Win 95/98 installed.
I know I can't get Windows 95 to run on VirtualBox. Although supposedly it will work in DosBox, but that assumes I can get past the drive check mechanism it uses.

Guess there's still some things to iron out. I wonder... *Searches his favorite old games abandon/archival site and finds the game* Ahh found it, but not sure about it being to run... Wasn't planning on looking into that. It might be patched and it might not. Game review talks about being sluggish back in 99, but that doesn't qualify for today...

probably not
and im honestly sick of running or trying to run games in a vm ( vmware player is the best option)
the best option is to install it on actual hardware running xp or 9x

DosBox and VirtualBox can both be fairly close to actual hardware. But then again, depends on how much needs to be emulated to get it to work.

There's also obscure options that can totally break or slow down games for seemingly no good reason that worked perfectly well back 10 years ago. So... *shrugs*
