In addition to the
Gibraltar Earth books, I also enjoyed his earlier
Antares series. They do cover many of the same themes.
Antares Dawn is just great. IMO, the other two didn't quite live up to the first book, but it's still a recommendation. If you want something heavier on military, battles & formations then
The Lost Fleet Series by Jack Campbell gets my recommendation. It also has some politics in it.
