I'll join in the giveaway, only the 2nd time I've ever entered one I think, if only because I might have a decent sci-fi-ish book series suggestion.

I'm a big mystery novel fan and I discovered a few years ago a series of books called Repairman Jack, which kind of combines the genres a bit. You might better describe them as fantasy, but I've always seen fantasy and sci-fi as sort of kissing cousins. Regardless, they're definitely something to check out.

justanoldgamer: I've played it when it originally came out (It's great!) so I'm going to wait for it to be on sale to buy it for myself. But since I want to reward GOG for bringing it here I bought it as a gift for one of you.

Rules:
1- State that you're in.
2- Have changed your avatar from the default one.
3- Recommend me a "newish" Science Fiction book series.
4- It's for you to redeem, no re-giving.

I'll announce that the Give Away will close for entries when I feel like it but at least 24 hours in advance.

Count me in, thanks for the giveaway.

Unfortunately I don't read very much fiction in general. Something has to terribly terribly TERRIBLY latch itself into me for me to give it any kind of attention, and the most recent examples have been my hardcopies of the collections of Edgar Allen Poe and the full Divine Comedy that I got 3 years ago. I'd suggest Ender's Game series but that has already been suggested. And I can't suggest any newer ones because all I know are the older works of Isaac Clark or Orwell's novels. The only thing I've heard of in recent memory that's new is World War Z, which I haven't read. So, I'm sorry that I'm not much help in this regard.

I don't read much science fiction but I guess I would recommend the Star Wars Path of Destruction (Darth Bane) :)
Count me in, please.

I'd like to recommend you the science fiction graphic novel "Trees", by Warren Ellis and Jason Howard.

"Ten years after they landed. All over the world. And they did nothing, standing on the surface of the Earth like trees, exerting their silent pressure on the world, as if there were no-one here and nothing under foot. Ten years since we learned that there is intelligent life in the universe, but that they did not recognize us as intelligent or alive..."

Thank you very much for this great giveaway, Justanoldgamer!

Indeed I have quite a number of times. :P
+1 for your generousness.
I can recommend a few I really like:

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi
Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi
Star Wars: The Thrawn Trilogy
Transmetropolitan (a bit dystopian but a great read)
Steins;Gate (the visual novel is also worth a read/play)
The Dirk Gently novels (more detective but heavy sci-fi elements)
The Silver Key/Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath trilogy by Lovecraft
Red Dwarf novels

I hope these are of use to you. :)

As for a sci-fi novel suggestion, I'm gonna go with one of my favorite from recent years, and I hope you like space opera:
The expanse.

It's starts with Leviathan Wakes And then moves from there. It's a great thriller with lots of twists, and they are adapting the series on Syfy later this year. Here's the trailer for the series:

I don't read very many books but the ones I have read, I'd recommend the first 3 Mass Effect novels (Revelation, Ascension, and Retribution). They're really good and expand upon the game's universe and lore. Just don't read the 4th book (Deception). That one was so bad that Bioware retracted it as canon.

Thanks for the giveaway!

My favorite book series are called Fighting Fantasy.

This one is very Sci-Fi: Starship Traveller.

Fighting Fantasy is the title given to a series of interactive novels also known as Gamebooks.

What is unique about the Fighting Fantasy series of books is that in each and every book the reader participates and affects the outcome of story.

The reader has to make choices and concentrate on guiding their fictional character through the book's adventure, which often involves tricks, traps, riddles, encounters and most importantly COMBAT.

:-)
I'm in :)

For the book, i can only recommend every books from the vorkosigan saga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vorkosigan_Saga).
-> great universe, great hero, great stories ...

another one : The Catteni Series (also called the Freedom Series) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catteni_Series)
-> just an excellent mc caffrey series ^^

Regards.

Not in, and a big +1 for giving away a good adventure game.

And I just recently realised that people can see that I don't have the default avatar. Apparently the new default avatars have been around for around 3 months now.
