I've played it when it originally came out (It's great!) so I'm going to wait for it to be on sale to buy it for myself. But since I want to reward GOG for bringing it here I bought it as a gift for one of you.

Rules:
1- State that you're in.
2- Have changed your avatar from the default one.
3- Recommend me a "newish" Science Fiction book series.
4- It's for you to redeem, no re-giving.

I'll announce that the Give Away will close for entries when I feel like it but at least 24 hours in advance.
sure im in

i wil reserve this space until i thought of a scifi series
it would help telling us the ones you are familair with

but for the time being i throw up ringworld by larry niven
and the robotech books by jack mckinney
and the mobile suit gundam trilogy by tomino and translated by frederick schodt ( the books are much more mature in tone then the tv series was )
Games aside - I would like to offer you a book series that will change your view on humanity - (for the better I hope)

Alan Dean Foster - A Call to Arms (Book one of the Damned)

from that you will want "The False Mirror" and "The Spoils of War"

If you get time, and you have not already read it - "The Last Command" trilogy by Timothy Zhan

Enjoy the books, and good luck with your give-away!

Captain's Log Stardate 5635.6

We have been ordered by Starfleet Command to enter a peculiar auction. A being calling itself "justanoldgamer" appears to be in possession of a precious, long lost antique from Earth's past. He has organised a lottery of sorts, the price of admission being a recommendation of a series of books that would fulfill his requirements.

-Bones, do you know any books that would fit the bill?

-Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor, not a librarian!

-Mr Spock, search our databanks for fitting series of books!

-I belive I have found one already, captain. It is The Long Earth, by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter, renowned authors from the late XX/early XXI century. The story begins with the introduction of a remarkable invention, that allows humans to explore what appears to be an infinite chain of parallel Earths. It then describes the global and personal challenges and changes that this discovery brings about. The following books in the series, The Long War and The Long Mars deal respectively with the social and political ramifications of humannity spreading across the new worlds and the exploration of Mars and it's parallel version. The fourth books, The Long Utopia, was published on 23rd June 2015, but information about it appears to have been mostly lost. The series appears to be quite... fascinating.

-The logical choice, eh Spock? Very well. Uhura, open hailing frequencies and transmit our recommendation.

Sure I'm in, I would recommend the Avery Cates books by Jeff Sommers. I enjoyed The Electric Church and was unable to put them down.
Not in because I already bought it but....

-Bones, this man is hurt, can't you......do something?

-Dammit Jim I'm a Doctor not a.....oh yeah.

And of course

-Very funny Scotty, now beam down my pants.

Mass effect comics and graphic novels. If you're a fan of Trek you'll really have an appreciation for the universe and it's brand of storytelling and lore.

Goodluck to everyone!
Awesome! Thanks for the opportunity! I'm in!

I'm not sure what "new-ish" means, exactly, so I would like to recommend "The Snow Queen" and "The Summer Queen" (just a 2-parter from like 20 years ago) by Joan D. Vinge.

There is a joke about the Captain's log to be made here, but I'm not going to. It's too hard.

Breja: It's too hard.
Come now...
1. I'm in!
2. I hope mine counts.
3. Newish. That's a trick. Not newish, but have you read this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Space_Trilogy
Ender's Game is my favorite I've read, probably.
4. I'll be playin' it!
Just to clarify, by newish I mean something somewhat recent, i.e. not stuff from the Asimov/Clark/Heinlein era (I think I read them all). That requirement is a suggestion, I won't disqualify anyone because of it.

I'm more into military sci-fi and first contact stories but but don't let that limit you.

Edit: The winner will be picked randomly.

I'm in, and thank you... I think I've finally lost the 3.5" disks that I had this game on...

as for a sci-fi series... this is one I've been reading lately... but they're far from new...
the Major Ariane Kedros Novels by Laura E. Reeve
In.
A number of my friends have strongly suggested John Scalzi and his Old Man's War series. Supposed to be some of the finest military science fiction. Sadly, I've been playing more games lately than actually reading, so I can't say much more about it.
