phaolo: Is this true? It seems absurd to me..
Please tell me that it's bullshit, because I'm never going to update to Win10.
It's bullshit. Windows 7 is supported by Microsoft until 2020, just like XP was supported until 2014. Windows 7 is on life support right now and only getting critical security updates et al. but that will continue until 2020. In the mean time Microsoft has, is, and will continue to use every high pressure tactic they can to convince, coerce and even force people to switch to Windows 10, including forcibly upgrading people's PCs to Windows 10 behind their back unless they manually go and disable auto-updates completely and install a 3rd party tool like GWX Control Panel to prevent Microsoft from forcing an OS upgrade. Please tell me that it's bullshit, because I'm never going to update to Win10.
Nothing anyone on the Internet thinks or says will change the fact Windows 7 will be supported until 2020. After that however it will go the way of Windows XP and burn in flames.
For the record, I'm with you - no way in hell I am ever going to run Windows 10 here myself either. Practically everyone else I know that uses Windows will almost certainly either be forced to upgrade or buy a new computer and get Windows 10 with it whether they like it or not, or end up having to upgrade for hardware or some other reason that they will have no choice about and almost all of them will succumb and make the switch if not soon, then definitely before 2020 at the rate Microsoft is going to make using Windows 7 as painful as possible (including planning on not putting out support for new AMD/Intel processors for Windows 7 in the future, meaning if you buy a new processor in a year or so you will need Windows 10 to use it to the fullest, or possibly even at all).
I'll be counted among the few who say "I'll never use Windows 10" who actually mean it. I've got other options lined up for myself that don't involve Microsoft, which would not be a comfy fit for 99% of people, but is perfectly good for me personally. :)
