It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

dewtech: It actually is the same reason they force updates on you now. Explained as decreasing vectors for attacks and breaches. FOrtunately you can use gpedit in pro-version of 10 to fine-tune updating settings.

Galaxy doesnt work correctly on pre SP1 Windows 7. So the one who did the Wishlist is a dumbass as pre-SP1 7 is EOL. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/lifecycle

It works correctly on 7 Professional SP1. Also on computers in domains. So that's that.
Oh, this is that person. I saw some thread about this earlier. Why would someone refuse a service pack of all things?

Darvond: People could at least bother to install their updates.

I really don't get how in this day and age, people still haven't figured out the importance of checking their updates.

Of course that probably is why Windows 10 basically said, "Fine, if you can't be trusted to keep your system shots up to date, we'll do it for you."

Exactly, Galaxy works just fine on Windows 7. Just update the thing to SP1 like it's 2011.

zeroxxx: Yeah yeah, people swore never to leave Windows 98 SE and XP as well.

phaolo: Ah phew, ok.
(even if you shouldn't offend noobs..)
People who are dumb shouldn't whine that much. If he is a wannabe "power user" and turned off WU after clean install of RTM Windows 7, then he should take a good look at himself and not sperg out here.

People are offended so easily these days, sometimes I wish late 80 or 90-s were back, people were better then. Shrug it off and get your shit together, pointless to get offended by something a dumb motherf*cker (me) says to you or others on the internet.

Dude, there are a ton of people that don't know anything about computers.
He could be a kid, an old man, or simply the PC isn't his field of work\interest.
Give him a break.

Anyway amen, let's avoid the Nth long discussion on Gog forums.

I'm using Galaxy on Windows 7 - installed only SP1 manually (had to try two times, this sh.. gets complicated sometimes :P), without enabling auto-updates, and it works. No win10 upgrade.

edit: of course I don't want to start new discussion, just want to say it needs SP1 only

I reject those reasoning.

He went as far as posting a request on Wishlist forum. That's not something common ignorant people can do.

A brat can't do either.

Simple logic really.

If you have your key, I believe you can download an upgraded iso (with SP1) from Microsoft legally.

I didn't want to reinstall windows - I followed those instructions: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/gog_galaxy_beta_2/post3782

That means:

1. For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932
2. Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401

Uh ok, but.. you know I wasn't referring to you, right?
It's just that everything becomes a drama with users here, lately.

I don't want a lot of similar discussions running in many threads too.

About drama - let's not do drama ourselves, let's work together for something or provide valuable input! :)
This one (in terms of content) is valuable too - there is a user, he thinks we push him to update to Windows 10. We will consider changing the error text.

SpooferJahk: Is it not working anymore or is the support for Windows 7 planned to be dropped?

IF it is the former then that is not true since I just booted it up on my current machine running Windows 7.

timppu: The OP/wishlist creator was (intentionally?) vague about it, but I presume this is about Galaxy not working/installing correctly if you haven't allowed Windows 7 to install some Microsoft updates. Ones that the OP doesn't want to install, e.g. if they are related to the "Hey you! Upgrade to Windows 10 now, or else!"-notifications that we Windows 7 users get ten times a day, or that telemetry thing or something.

Is this in fact the same guy who complained something not working if you haven't installed Service Pack 1 to Windows 7?

I'm not currently using Galaxy so I don't know how it works in Windows 7, but if it didn't work at all there, then I presume there would have been a muuuuuch bigger ruckus about it already.
I lack those updates and it still works fine so... not sure what to say.
avatar
phaolo: Is this true? It seems absurd to me..
Please tell me that it's bullshit, because I'm never going to update to Win10.
avatar
zeroxxx: Yeah yeah, people swore never to leave Windows 98 SE and XP as well.
With all the underhanded tactics of Microsoft lately, next time I clean my PC, I'm moving from Windows 10 to Linux...
with Windows 7, XP and 98 on separate hard drives for the games that just won't work on Linux.

(And hopefully Vulkan will become popular enough for me not to miss DirectX 12 too much!)
I hate to do that, but I just rebooted to windows only to show you what are my latest updates..
The only one you may think of, is:
KB 2999226 is a nonsecurity patch for Windows 8.1 that, according to the KB article, sticks a new Universal C Runtime on Windows 8.1 machines. The new Universal C Runtime is needed when programmers use the new Windows 10 Software Development Kit to build Universal/Metro apps and you try to run them on Windows 8.1. It's a mammoth patch, first issued for both Win 7 and Win 8.1 on Sept. 15, then issued for Vista on Sept. 29.
back to debian now,, who's using windows anyway?

edit:
I'd rather expect more ms malware if you're using skype.. ; p
oh, and that's windows7 btw, with SP1 installed.

Don't even need the key.
https://techjourney.net/windows-7-8-1-10-iso-official-direct-download-links-from-microsoft-tech-bench/ shows you how to javascript your way into downloading many windows ISOs from MS Tech Bench. The downloads are available legally its just that MS has limited the use of that site to W10 ISOs only. Well... not if you know your javascript, apparently. :P
You still need a key to activate, but this is the easiest way to get your ISOs.
