I don't know you but i'm getting sick of game devs not updating theyr games on GOG and yet doing so regularly on steam

I'm starting to think Volvo is paying them under the desk to not update anywhere else or something because it's unbeliveable how many games so far have stopped recieving updates only here.

Can please GOG implement a rule for game devs to avoid this kind of BS ?
I mean com'on, eithre update it everywhere or don't even bother putting it up anywhere else but on Steam, i'm sick ot spending money in games that don't get updated anymore when the refund period expires.

I strongly support this.

it's virtually umplayable without the latest update. Great, I spent all that money for an icon. :P
I'd be really curious to know what's actually going on with these updates. Are those developers 'pulling an Armello', is there some technical glitch in how the updates get sent to gOg, is gOg dragging their feet in some manner, or what? Combination of all of those, depending on the update in question? The silence is deafening, and leaving the customers to make their speculations... the most we typically get is the occasional dev tweet, with varying amounts of detail and/or truthfulness.

Not good for anybody involved, as far as I'm concerned.

But it's a really cool icon, so you have that going for you.
I didn't use to keep track of this sort of thing (ie outdated games) but now that I have kept a closer eye on it I would be lying if I didn't say it has made me question buying from GOG.

However, while it's hard to say overall how big of an issue this really is, I do think it's gotten somewhat better... and I do think overall it's a small segment of GOG games that have this issue.

Thing is GOG SHOULD have a clause in their contract that says devs should not abandon their games.

I'm surprised they still haven't added that after all the devs that left for Steamier pastures.

It's not even just that... they continue (like in the case of tinyBuild) to release their brand new games when they are KNOWN to not update their other games on GOG.

GOG could at least refuse to release their new game until their other games are fully updated... they seem to have no problem telling publishers / developers no to selling their games when they think they will fail at selling so why not say no here too?
Ok, obviously abandoning games on GOG is not ok. And customers should know whether a game they are buying is up to date and if it will be further updated here. But honestly... if a game is complete and works and has no major issues... I don't really care about updates. I would certainly hate to lose the chance to buy a DRM version of it just because we're not getting some minor updates I would never bother to download anyway :P

That's the problem, sometimes it doesn't. With regard to my personal gripe, when DoK came out they for some reason left out a tactical pause which makes the game a mess. Well, people freaked, and they heard the screams, and they busted their ass off to make the patch and fix it but GOG for whatever reason doesn't have the patch. It's not Warcraft 2. The Maps for the Homeworld games are massive, and you can't play them without that pause. If it was a cheap game and or just a minor bug fix I wouldn't be so pissed but neither is the case.
I think GOG should hold back the payouts if updates are not submitted with a certain time frame. Developers will gladly take the money from GOG customers, but not provide the customer support, so I'd say "no support, no money".

EDIT: Of course that's coming from the consumer perspective. I would gladly like to know why keeping both Steam and GOG releases updated is supposedly such a hassle. Is there a legitimate reason, or is Steamworks just so deeply baked into the build process that it takes forever to make a non-Steam build?

Steamworks is ingrained in a ton of steam games, and is almost like a virus. What makes matters worse is a lot of devs don't even consider Steamworks a form of DRM, despite it requiring Steam to work.

How hard or how easy it is to make new builds must be relative, I suspect. I know the PS4 games I own that are also on Steam get updates relatively quickly, but then again Sony doesn't play around. When you mess with its money, it messes with you.

Any chance you could get a refund? (I honestly don't know, as I never requested one from GOG yet).

Anyway, that's an update that implements a major feature, so obviously it's not the kind of an update I said I don't care about. I mean the kind of patches that improve the way the water sparkles, or walking animation, or implement proper accent for cows mooing and shit like that.
