Today, we bid farewell to the legendary post-apocalyptic 2D classics.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we needed to pull the three classic Fallout games, that is Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, from sale and remove them from our DRM-free catalog. These classic titles have been with us since day one, that is for over 5 years now, and they were always one of the highlights of the selection of games that we offer. There are very few titles in the history of computer role-playing games, that have had so much impact on the gaming landscape, players' expectations, and even the popular culture. The iconic setting, the memorable quotes, and unparalleled amount of fun and challenge these games provide--it's all burned in the memory of a whole generation of gamers. Probably even more than just one generation. It was an honor to have you here, Fallout. Take good care of yourself out there, try not to mistake a gecko for G.E.C.K. (not even remotely the same thing!), and remember to take your Rad-X pills!

All those who acquired Fallout, Fallout 2, or Fallout Tactics on GOG.com prior to the date of removal (that is before Tuesday, December 31st 2013, at 3:59PM GMT), will still be able to download the games' install files (as well as the bonus content) via the "My Games" section of their user accounts. Gift-codes for these three games acquired in our recent giveaway are no longer valid. However, if you own a gift-code for any or all of them that was purchased outside of the said giveaway, you'll still be able to redeem it in the foreseeable future.

We sincerely apologize for all the inconvenience this situation may have caused you. We invite you to browse through 671 other fantastic titles offered in our DRM-free catalog of the best games in history, and we wish you a Happy New Year of gaming!

JudasIscariot: Goodbye old friends! May we meet once again! Thanks for being here as a shining light that brought me to GOG!

(sorry for the melodrama but I had to *ahem* shut down the Fallouts today. )

shmerl: Thanks for not pulling the games from those who already bought them.
We wouldn't dream of doing that...unless lawyers :/

Well, I hope I get to put them back up one day :)
Wish I could V.A.T.S. at you for this terrible news Bethesda...Farewell fallout games !

Solei: Hate to say it, and i might get some flak for it - but apart from the fallout games purchased legally on gog, the only good Zenimax/Bethesda games now, are the pirated ones.

Don't buy anything from them until they cave in, and make their games available outside steam.

auberon2k: That's a bit of an overstatement of this situation. Bethesda hasn't forced GOG to removed these, it would have been Interplay that pulled it to prevent breach of contract. All three games mentioned have ALSO been pulled from Steam. I suspect we'll see them return when the pen a new deal with Bethesda this time.
Actually from what I can see they are still on Steam
However they also still have Interplay listed as publisher so they may just be later on pulling it

Such stuff isn't unheard of (Amazon and etc.). I.e. they might offer refund, but many aren't strangers to silently pulling stuff, especially DRMed services. Of course GOG customers can back up what they bought (hello DRM-free), but keeping them on your servers for those who bought the games is still good. In general, even though in this case it's good, it's still a reminder - always to back up what you buy, just in case.

godzizzle: There is still a chance they could come back. The are being pulled because currently they are being sold by Interplay and Interplay's rights to sell those games expire today. It is still very well possible that Bethesda could look at the sales figures and decide to sell them here again.
If GOG had an agreement with Bethesda taking force immediately after the Interplay one was set to expire then GOG wouldn't have to remove the games at all. Bethesda's refusal to enter in to such an agreement has forced GOG's hand. If Bethesda wanted the games on GOG the Bethesda - Interplay dispute would not matter to GOG.

Well, if we ever have to pull not only the game from but from your shelf, then I am sure we would at least let you know beforehand :)
Looks like GOG and the publisher had a bit of a... falling out.

That's appreciated.
RIP True Friend.
Just for fun I'm considering contacting Bethesda to inquire if they would provide Steam keys for Fallout 1-2+Tactics since I previously purchased (actually bought, not free) from GOG. If nothing else it'd be curious to see their reply.

That's true, assuming that Bethesda did in fact turn down a deal offered by GOG. There is still a chance they are still in negotiations, or that they have not entered negotiations yet.

In all likelihood the games, if Bethesda is going to offer them for sale, will be found only on Steam after this. Even still, the possibility of them coming back is still there, and ignoring that would be unneeded pessimism. No reason to bring down those of the community that didn't get the games while they could until it is a fact they aren't coming back.
