Today, we bid farewell to the legendary post-apocalyptic 2D classics.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we needed to pull the three classic Fallout games, that is Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, from sale and remove them from our DRM-free catalog. These classic titles have been with us since day one, that is for over 5 years now, and they were always one of the highlights of the selection of games that we offer. There are very few titles in the history of computer role-playing games, that have had so much impact on the gaming landscape, players' expectations, and even the popular culture. The iconic setting, the memorable quotes, and unparalleled amount of fun and challenge these games provide--it's all burned in the memory of a whole generation of gamers. Probably even more than just one generation. It was an honor to have you here, Fallout. Take good care of yourself out there, try not to mistake a gecko for G.E.C.K. (not even remotely the same thing!), and remember to take your Rad-X pills!

All those who acquired Fallout, Fallout 2, or Fallout Tactics on GOG.com prior to the date of removal (that is before Tuesday, December 31st 2013, at 3:59PM GMT), will still be able to download the games' install files (as well as the bonus content) via the "My Games" section of their user accounts. Gift-codes for these three games acquired in our recent giveaway are no longer valid. However, if you own a gift-code for any or all of them that was purchased outside of the said giveaway, you'll still be able to redeem it in the foreseeable future.

We sincerely apologize for all the inconvenience this situation may have caused you. We invite you to browse through 671 other fantastic titles offered in our DRM-free catalog of the best games in history, and we wish you a Happy New Year of gaming!

auberon2k: All three games mentioned have ALSO been pulled from Steam.
Are you sure about that? Then what do I see here?

What an unfortunate and ridiculous situation. Thanks for the notice, the giveaway (one of the best "fuck you" moments I've seen in gaming, so punk!) and that you let everyone who bought it keep it in their libraries (I suppose you had to fight for that?).

OldGamesRBest: Does this normally happen on GOG?
Games have been removed (and returned) before, take a look at the GOGWiki for specifics. If there is advance warning (like Fallout, XIII or Colin McRae) GOG does usually warn us, but if they get a cease and desist, they have to remove the games immediately.

SHADOW-XIII: that's the first time I think I've seen game removal on GoG
Check my post for the other removals.

Yeah, this smells pretty clearly of contract renegotiation. It's not just bad for us on GOG, it's bad for Interplay and Bethesda, too. I imagine we might see these titles return in the next year, after the new contract terms have played out.

Still, it's disappointing to see the titles pulled at the moment. Fallout is a key component of the GOG catalog, on par with Baldur's Gate, in my opinion. I'm SOOOO happy I already have the Fallout games on my shelf right now...
From what I understand, Bethesda is not directly at fault for the games being pulled. The agreement between Interplay and GOG to distribute Fallout games here was made null & void the moment that Interplay was no longer the rightsholder to the classic Fallout games, id est as of today. Whether or not they come back depends on whether or not Bethesda decides to make a new agreement with GOG for distribution.
Damn, I think I had them in my wishlist:-/ And if not I would add them there soon.

Anyway there are a lot of great games I would like to see in (official) DRM free version here on gog, so I hope that I will see some of them here in 2014 :)

godzizzle: There is still a chance they could come back. The are being pulled because currently they are being sold by Interplay and Interplay's rights to sell those games expire today. It is still very well possible that Bethesda could look at the sales figures and decide to sell them here again.
I hope you are right! Otherwise it's back to torrents to get these classics.

If Bethesda does come through, hopefully they will respect the IP conditions that GOG is supposed to make for every game when they decide to put it for sale.

Not really contract renegotiation, Interplay simply no longer has the rights to sell the games after tonight. Hopefully GOG or Bethesda approach each other to set up a new deal.
Goodbye old friends! May we meet once again! Thanks for being here as a shining light that brought me to GOG!

(sorry for the melodrama but I had to *ahem* shut down the Fallouts today. )

Shut down is better than shoot down. At least shut down leaves a chance to reboot at a later time.

Thanks for not pulling the games from those who already bought them.
